Prehunt Tradition/Rituals

I was wondering how many guys have a prehunt tradition or ritual that they go through each time before they head out, or after they are in the stand. Or maybe it’s the lucky hat, shirt, undies, etc. Or maybe a strange superstition.

I always pray in the same spot on the way out in the morning.

I have a song a song called “The Hunter” that is played by an Indian on a flute type instrument, I listen to it before each hunt.

I alternate arrows until I find the lucky one, then I use it until it either loses its luck, or loses a battle with a deer.

I shower every morning before I go hunt. I wear the same base layer regardless of how hot or cold it is. I stretch thoroughly before each hunt. I dont put my hunting clothes on until I reach my hunting destination. About it for me, go through the motions before every hunt.

There is a tradition just north of us here that I really don't understand that well but the thing is big up there. The night before gun season opens every place it seems has a meatless Spagetti dinner. It has long been thought that if you eat meat 24 hours before the hunt you will have stink coming out of your pores and the deer run. But then it is generally covered up by sitting in a small shack with a woodburner (deer shack) going with slots on the side for shooting out of. With all that going on how would the meat smell overpower the woodburner. I don't get it. But I like the shacks.

WOW. I agree. It feels good going to the stand and being confident about not having to go. Actually I always take a scent free shower. Put on my sox then my base layers. Grab a piece of fruit or granola bar. Head out to the truck and drive. Dress when I get there. I always look around at everything and smile when I'm walking to the stand just thankful that I don't live in France or England.:)

Ive gotta lucky camo hat that I always wear- wether Im hunting or not. And at times I dispearse tabbaco into the air because thats what indians use to do before a big hunt.
