I decided to do a little fishin in the Maumee yesterday. I was at the dam in Grand Rapids throwing a jig, just trying to hook up with some carp and buffalos. Lo and behold-right next to the bank were a few dozen carp swimmin in the slack water.

BUT......I left the bow at home! They were close enough that I could touch them-literally. Won't be long now.......:D

I was wondering have you ever gotten any complaints against bowfishing in the river? I d like to try it also in the sidecut park ara but I ve never seen anyone try it yet. Isnt illegal to have your bow in a park?

LookMa-NoHands!
03-22-2003, 01:20 PM
LOL!

That's funny you should ask. I tried bowfishing in Sidecut once. The rangers came and took my bow away and gave me a court date. The judge said a bow is considered a 'firearm', and firearms aren't allowed in Maumee city limits. Cost me $65.

So I tried in Oak Openings. It's not in any city limits. Wrong. There goes my OTHER bow. Another $65. I guess you aren't supposed to have any weapons in a metropark. Ooops. I did get my bows back after the court date.

You CAN walk THROUGH a metropark to shoot in the river. The rangers at Providence and Mary Jane Thurston seem pretty cool about bowfishing. They always ask how I did, where they have seen carp, etc. I shoot there a lot in the summer. Never had a problem.

Just make sure you don't shoot any fish in the actual 'park' if that makes sense. Like in the canal. I imagine you could walk through Sidecut on the river side to shoot if park near the water. Once you are in the river you are safe.

Good luck-hopefully I saved ya from the same hassle I had with the Sidecut episode.

Yes you did thank you! I knew it had to be a touchy one with Sidecut... thanks

What does everyone do with them? I can only fertalize a few of these things as I have a very curious Boxer running around who would love to dig it up to show everyone what she found!

Še§perado™
03-22-2003, 09:06 PM
What do I do with the fish?... Since no one else will say what the majority is thinking I will. After I shoot them, I take them home, lay them in the yard, spray them off with the hose, photograph them for documentation, then either plant them in the garden, toss them in the barrel for the bears and coons, or freeze them for people who asked me to save them so they can do one of the above mentioned things. Contact local homeless shelters ,sometimes they want them.

I do not feel remorse, nor do I feel that it is unethical to shoot fish and not eat them. I shoot hundreds of fish from local lakes, more like a carp factory, every year and the population does not seem to be hurt. And I am not the only one who shoots there. I hunt rivers, lakes, creeks, any spot that I think will have carp that I can shoot. If I get a shot I will take it, and have fun doing it.

Some people will look at you funny, some will disagree with what you are doing. You will find that the majority of the people who find out you are a carp shooter will be as interested as can be.

It is not for all people. My brother goes both ways, one day he is all for it and shoots as many fish as he can, other days he feels bad and does not shoot any.

I have heard from both sides, but I have never been run out of an area, but respect other fisherman and you should not have any problems shooting.

I hope that is the answer you were looking for. If you are looking to start a fight then about ethics that is your buisness. I have no problems sleeping at night. So I will shoot anything and everything that comes by, as far as carp go.

:)

Yes george that are good smoked only. Not sure if i glow or not??Where is the CC and what is it? is it short for Ceasar Creek??.I'm not seeing anything up this way yet whats the deal here going out again today to look around.

CARPN-JAKE

Yep...CC is short for Caesars Creek....Not sure why the fish aren't up up there yet...Your at Indian right?....I'd think there would hafta be carp up in the shallow up there somewhere...Shot mosta these in the back end of the lake...water was pretty muddy otherwise there woulda been alot more shot....

Caribou Dreamer2
