Looking at getting into blackpowder to expand my seasons.

Gander Mtn. has a CVA kit for $190.00 with 209 primers.

What's the difference of 207 and 209? Any sites there for blackpowder?

I guess I don’t understand your question.
209 primers are typical primers used in shotgun shells. Most modern muzzleloaders now use 209 primers as their primary ignition source compared to musket caps or standard primer caps. The 209 primers are hotter and usually make muzzleloaders less prone to misfires.

I'm just getting into muzzle loading and trying to depict the differences. I was told that there were loaders that took 207 and not 209. Plus, On the certain loaders, the bolt stays open opossed to being closed.

Just trying to find out all I can about them before the purchase.

I don't know if someone is playing with you or what, but there are no 207 primers, at least not that I know of.

Most in-line guns today use 209 primers. They ones that don't use 209's use percussion caps, but the vast majority use 209's

I would suggest you try and find someone you know that has shot some Muzzle loaders and get them to help you out for the first range trip so you don't hurt yourself. Misleader's are pretty simple but there are some loading precautions that should be watched closely. You really can hurt yourself if you don't know what you are doing.

Good luck

If you are going to use the pirodex(sp.) pellets then you may want to get the 209s, but if you are like me and use black powder then the percussion caps are just fine.
