Hello all, bank pounded the lake for musky yesterday, skunk. I did have loads of fun teaching my girlfriend how to use a baitcaster :yikes: Whoop, she just wacked me...
On-line looking for options for today, and i see it's a balmy 36 degrees out. Raybob emailed me this morning saying his boat bumpers are underwater and 2-4s at Erie sounds kinda rough.
Do i dare head back to the dead sea and risk being blasted by the duck hunters :chicken:
Well this is my first post, hope i'm :Welcome:

Returned to the dead sea on Rt. 73 for more punishment 11-20. Went solo, so i spent less time helping the GF with backlashes
Skunked again, and worse yet returned to the North pool ramp at dusk to find it had been pulled.
Lucky for me i had my tall waterproof duck hunting boots with me and i was able to beach the Lund near the personal watercraft launch and retrive my boat.
Thanks all for the warm welcome. When i finally catch something i'll post a pic w/ my report...

Well i still haven't hooked a musky this winter at CC, but had 3 follows at 3 different places the day before Xmas. I thought the pattern this time of year would be a slow retrieve near the surface, but the toothy critters wanted the exact opposite.
The bait they all wanted was a little ernie, and i was bringing it in pretty fast. One of the 3 was a real big fish and i figure 8'ed it at least a dozen times, but i never could get a hook in her :(
I still hope to Catch, Photo, Release one more this year
Hope all have a safe and happy New Years...

She is beautiful and she is deep and she is full of Zebra's so she will be very clean now too. She is also full of fish of all kinds and sizes and shapes but only for those that put in the time to coax them out of her. It takes time and a caring love of her to get her to give up her secrets. To call her the "Dead Sea" only insults her.
Muskies hunters: last year while I was crappie fishing back up in one of the bays i had a huge muskie come out ot the water and try to take my crappie that was splashing on the top of the water. I would say it was at least 3 ft long or longer and it had a huge head too. I was looking him right in the eye as he came out to take the crappie but I was too fast and he was too slow. lol Any way he missed and I think i am glad he did so you muskies hunters can take him.
Good luck to all the Muskie hunters at C C and remember to show her lots of love and respect and maybe she will show you something too.

Like any lake I'm sure it just takes time to learn how to fish it. Time, place, pattern, stuff like that, but its a big lake and it may take awhile, and so far I ahvent given it enough attempts to give an opinion.

Taxicab ~ as your first post on this site i thought you'd figure out i LOVE fishing and was just messing around calling CC the dead sea. I fish quite a bit and it's the challenge that keeps me at it.
Your correct, CC is the deepest inland lake in OH and in all the seasons it's a beautiful lake. Well maybe not that good looking in the middle of summer with all the personal watercraft buzzing around, but you get the idea :mischeif:
My days off this week i'm heading north for wally gators  The musky @ CC will be ready for me next time i'm off...
Again, thanks for the warm welcome, AJ

well it seems a couple of you fellas fish cc i only caught one nice smally last year. and of all the bass only 1 really nice one. it was the first year i really fished it. normally i fish cowan cause its closer. i did get 1 musky while i was bass fishing tho. i hope this year i learn to fish it better. if ohbow76 wants to ride along maybe he can show me how to talk them fish into the boat this year.

I was gonna let this thread die, but i still haven't got a CC ski since i joined this site :(
Pounded it pretty hard yesterday, and the only two hits i had all day were by 2 largemouth bass  How do the get the trebles of my baby depth raider in their mouths?
Still it was a nice day to be out, and even talked to a few fellow musky heads who reported similar success as me :p
tight lines, smooth seas~~~~~

FishonJA,
Just do like most of the muskie fisherman do and fish for bass and you will catch some muskies. The guys who fish the bass tournments at C C catch a lot of muskies.
One of the hottest muskie spots is the bay just south of the Rt 73 bridge. The muskies go way back up into that bay to where it almost runs into 73. It is still deep back in there and they are chasing the spawing crappie back in there. Good luck and I hope you get a big one.

That's the bay where i got 1 of the bass :mischeif:
Taxi ~ are you the guy i met who was tied up by the blown down tree, fishing crappie and bass way back in the cove by 73? I'm in a black Lund Pro-V

Hey taxiecab ~ we have to hook up :coolgleamA: I hooked a 40+ incher right where you said tonight after work. I did see a few fish swimming around, but they looked more like shad to me than crappie.
Bite-me from OGF saw me fight it to within 5 feet of my boat. Dang it ~ it came off :( but hey, i was gonna c&r her anyway ;)
Still gonna go exploring Indian Lake tomorrow for saugeye, Tuesday i'll try and find that elusive husky musky in CC
