I have a 2004 400 Sportsman that has had some trouble lately. My CV boots ripped last year (and didn't know) and I had to have both shafts replaced. From what I've heard, these boots rip frequently because of the angle. The boots rub and rip. That's crap.
NOW, the darn thing is stuck in reverse. The guy who's fixing it says this is a common occurance as well with Polaris. As a matter of fact, when I dropped it off today, there was a Trail Blazer there with the SAME problem.
Anyone else have these problems with their Polaris 4 wheelers?
I might sell it and get a new one if this crap keeps happening. The roughest I ride it is in the winter to plow all the neighbor's driveways. Otherwise I use it for yard work and just light riding.
I've got a 97 425 magnum have had it for a couple of years now and have had no problems with it so far and the previous owner did little to no maint on it, I changed all fluids and lube it a lot and it treats me very good and starts right up after sitting for a couple of months. Maybe I just got lucky but I recommend them to other people.

I have the same problem right now with my Polaris 500 the shaft rods has come unadjusted and I have been trying to fix it myself but when I get it to work good in one direction it screws up in another. It looks like Dealership here I come.

I have sent this to Polaris and am waiting for a reply.
I have been reading some stories on your equipment and thought you may want to hear it from the source. Thanks. "J"

I have not heard of the cv joint problem with the Polaris's, but the shifter linkage problem has been and issue with Polaris for years. Not sure why they can't come up with a better system.
I have owned two Polaris's in the past and now I own a Honda. Polaris's just are not engineered to hold up long term. Not slamming your quad or anything, just what I have seen from 8 years of owning different quads.

Man I would dump the Polaris's and go for a Honda or something reliable. Polaris's are notorious for being unreliable. I have a 400ex now I know that you don't have a sport quad but I have never had to touch my honda 400ex, and everyone I know who has a honda, or yamaha never does anything but put gas and oil in it.
I wouldn't take a polaris if it were given to me.

I spent about 1//2 hour on the linkage issue turning the adjuster screws until I got all three gears Hi Lo Reverse to work smoothly. Took it out for a hour drive and all is right in the world again.

Long time Polaris dealer in Fairborn just gave up Polaris, said he was tired of fighting with them. I took that, as on-going issues and returns. Jackson Ohio dealer did the same a couple of years ago for the same reason he told me. .

That is where I bought mine. I thought I saw some out front about a month agao so this must of just happened recently. I did fix my problem with the shift linkage myself. Took about 45 minutes of back and forth adjusting till getting it right.
