I'm not quite sure what this is all about. I saw vague references to this on the bowsite. I will make this clear now:

The Ground Rules
Ok, due to the lack of civility, rude and sometimes racial posts, I've had another moderator threaten to resign.

1. Rudeness to other members and especially sponsors will not be tolerated. Difference of opinion is fine and is to be expected but out-right nasty rude exchange will not be tolerated and don't be surprized when they are promptly deleted.

2. Any post that has racial overtones will be promptly deleted and that user who made it considered for removal. Frankly this should go without saying but it seems that I need to. I am as upset as anyone over what happened on Sept 11 and fully support what our government is doing but derrogatory terms for people from that area of the world will not be tolerated. I hunt and fish with some people of that race and and friends with many of them.

3. As editor of this site I maintain control over what goes up on it (as much as possible anyway). I will continue to exercise this control. Call it censorship if you must, but if it is neccessary it will be done. I am not going to have this site degrade into a bunch of people talking to "Yee-Haw" on my forums.

4.I will not have posts on this site which degrade hunters by using crude English or other impersonations of slob hunters. If that's what you've come here for, turn around right now because I will ban people faster than the Bowsite did, and it's much easier for me to do so.

Q2XL
12-18-2002, 11:43 AM
hey no problem STEVE.we are just a bunch of bowhunters from different parts of ohio that like to share our interest in bow huntin whitetail deer.

I remember a day when hunting buddies can exchange ideas and have fun but I guess those days are gone forever!

Those days are not over here. I'm just trying to get past the hearsay on the bowsite and figure out what happened there. Everyone is welcome here provided they follow a few simple rules of civility and conduct.

12-18-2002, 01:40 PM
you dont have to worry about the deer camp boys, they did nothin wrong on bowsite but talk alot.there were other people on the bowsite that were the problem, not the deer camp boys.i aint here to start no arguments just talk to some good ole bpwhuntin boys!!!

rjolenic
12-18-2002, 03:38 PM
Dear Mr. Editor,

Please don't be worried about us. We are a bunch of guys that share a common interest and that's Deercamp at Zaleski State Forest. Our two groups met on the bowsite through a post that was created by Wickohio about a deercamp openning at Zaleski. Longer story short, we started conversing about merging the two deercamps, but it didn't happen this year. Eventually, we realized that we had met some friends through that site and began conversing quite a bit regarding our hunting experiences and questions that we had about bowhunting deer. I can't say that all threads that were posted on the topic were directly related to the topic and sometimes left people with a bad view, but we now understand that we need to be careful of what is said. Any way you want to look at it is fine, but the bottom line is that we are buddies who all have wives and children who come together through sites like this to "let loose" a little from the everyday grind. Hopefully you can accept us with no preconcieved ideas and we can continue to learned together through your site as a group of people with common interest. I will try to promote the site to bowhunters in NW Ohio and encourage them to register here so that they too can learn through your sites forums.

in good sports,

rjolenic (ithoyt's)

Steve
12-18-2002, 03:58 PM
Then that is fine. That's what this site is here for.... to talk a lot. Post away gentlemen. I can't imagine why anyone would discourage this.

rjolenic
12-18-2002, 04:24 PM
Like I said Steve, not everything we wrote was in good taste. However, not everything on the rest of the threads at BOWSITE is either. Frankly, I began to become a little irritated by the all of the conflict there. Honestly, two reasons we may have been "kicked off". 1. Mention of drinking beer with our post, which we won't do anymore AND 2. We hit that post 1100 times over the course of three months. Maybe it was too much for them to handle.

Oh by the way don't take the beer talk the wrong way, we only take part in that AFTER the hunt, while reflecting on what took place during the hunt around the campfire. Again, we are just a bunch of guys that want to share our hunting experiences with each other, and also with others that want to be involved with this topic. :)

thanks,

rjolenic (ithoyt's)

Hey there Q2XL, I won't be able to make the muzzleloader trip, but thanks! I have some private land up here that I will be hunting the day after XMAS and the weekend as well. Now I can officially say that my philosophy is "brown is down". I have a statewide to use, and another urban that I just bought. Where did you say that hot spot was at Zaleski??????????? Yep, you "Deercamp boys" were "all right" over there, didn't post any on your thread, but kept up with it.....still don't see why they "pulled" your guys thread and banned you guys.....but it looks like you have found a new home.

By the way, I am "OLDHAT"..aka Jesse..have been a member of the bowsite for a few years, but don't post more over there too often....the administrators pulled way-to-many threads and we all dispersed about a year ago.

Looks like I'll give this scene a try for a while.

Good Morning fellow hunters:D

Spitfire
12-20-2002, 08:56 AM
Whats going on my fellow arrow slingers? My appointment with the in-laws got set back until noon today so i thought i would get on here and chat awhile. So is it the first or second week of November? Man, is it just me or is that a long way off? I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and safe New Year. I got my Catquiver 3 yesterday in the mail. That thing is awesome, I wish I would have gotten one earlier. So long with the side quiver on the bow, i never did like that thing. It never made sense to shoot all year with out one and then slap some weight on the side of my bow for hunting. Just me I guess.

Later, D.G.

Dear_Hunter
12-20-2002, 08:57 AM
Q2XL are you guys still going out this weekend, trying to bag that big boy.

rjolenic
12-20-2002, 09:22 AM
Hey there BOYS! What's everyone's schedule this weekend?? I would like to try to get out up here in NW Ohio, but they are predicting GALE force winds and I personally don't like being on stand when it's that windy. Looks like I won't get out until Sunday at the earliest unless the forcast changes overnight.

Hey OLD HAT, thanks for the vote of confidence. I didn't think we were treated fairly at the BOWSITE either. I know some off the wall things were said, but geees, they just flat out dropped us with no warning. Curious to know if it's because we posted 1100 threads on that topic. It was too much for them to handle!!! We dun broke thier site for a while. They didn't just pull the thread, they pulled every single post I ever made on that site .... they're mean

Dear_Hunter

Dear_Hunter

you must have liked our threads over at you know where, I dont want to get in trouble here so Im being a good Camper.

I heard that it was going to get very nasty this weekend for bowhunting from a treestand so maybe I will bowhunt from underground. Do you think that might work.:D

Dear_Hunter
12-20-2002, 09:35 AM
Maybe I need to go to Ebay to buy a parascope for my underground hunt. :p

rjolenic
12-20-2002, 09:58 AM
Hmmm, you are dedicated there dear_hunter ! I think I will have an underground hunt this weekend too .... in my basement next to the refrigerator. I can't hunt in these blustery conditions. More power to all of you if you happen to get out.

Dear_Hunter
12-20-2002, 10:26 AM
Hey Spitfire are you going out this weekend?

rjolenic
12-20-2002, 10:31 AM
I will be watching the silly AFC playoff hunt on Saturday and sunday in the comfort of the basement. My refrig is stocked with coca cola and the big screen is getting a tune up today.

Does anyone else seem to feel the same way I do about hunting in the wind??? I just seem to get sea sick up there in my treestand in these conditions.

Dear_Hunter
12-20-2002, 10:35 AM
I hunt on the ground, that way I dont have far to fall.

Spitfire
12-20-2002, 11:02 AM
Ya i'm going out this weekend. Just dont know when yet. I have been helping the in-laws move, so i dont know when i'll get out.

Hey Ray, the wind is'nt so bad. Find a spot where it isnt as strong (back side of a wood lot, ravine, opposite side of ridge, etc.....) and you will see deer. That is what i did in all that nasty weather before slug season and saw all kinds of deer. I was on the back side of the woods one night with 30mph winds and my tree was hardly moving while i was perched at 30ft. Good times!

Hay spiter nice to see you are BACK was starting to wonder,I think i will be heading out sunday moring and night are yuo going out.Sine the deer camp boys are getting so popular i thought maybe we could start our own tv show,You can be the movie guy and i will be the hunter sound good.Think we caould sell any vhs tape i think we could. What do you other guys think just send us your footage and we will put it all together and get one out in time for next years camp,"THE DEER CAMP BOYS"day bou will be next year at camp.Hay when is camp the second week is good for old caribou but i really like the last week in oct. though lets us know so we can book also or maybe look into the big lodge there instead of two cabins, but that will be hard to get though more and likely its already booked.Wick when you call get ours to ,tell them you need two side by side unless you think we can all fit into one if so let me know and i will sent you my deposit

Spitfire
12-20-2002, 12:55 PM
I am going last minute christmas shopping with a couple guys from the shop on Sunday morning. If you guys are going out to Ackleys dont be going out there and screwing everything up. I plan on hunting next week and would like to see some deer. LOL!!! If you are wanting to make hunting videos you better get a better camera. Atleast one that doesnt focus on every little object between you and the deer. I am seriously looking at one of those cameras that the pro staffs use on the hunting shows. It will only run about $3,000.00, might even be able to find one a little cheaper than that.

Spitfire
12-20-2002, 12:59 PM

12-20-2002, 01:32 PM
Hey there Wick,

What do you think of leaving it the second week again next year???? It's always been the second week and HOYTME and I can't make it down any earlier than that because we have to work.

How do you like having a section totally dedicated to talking deercamp here?? Pretty cool of Steve and the rest of the guys here to embrace our group and the topic instead of trashing it.

Spitfire
12-20-2002, 01:36 PM
All i have to say is, Awesome! This is pretty generous of them to add a forum just for the sake of deer camp stories and good bowhunting friends. I would like to thank them personally for their generosity. It's kind of nice to know that the people at the Bowsite are the real losers out of all this.

12-20-2002, 02:01 PM
Hey there ZFISH , saw you've been placed in charge of "watching" us .... lucky you. I will just assure you one thing, we're all about having fun. Who knows, you may even get into this group a little. Maybe you would like to join us at deer camp next year, it's a lot of fun. Just wanted to make sure you knew you are welcome to be part of the 10 year old tradition. rjolenic
12-20-2002, 05:39 PM

I am going to call on Monday to reserve a cabin for November 12 I think is the wednesday we will go down until sunday the 16th. I hope these are the right dates. I'll check my calender for sure. We will be staying in the Wildlife cabins... I believe the Cabin #'s are 60-66. We stayed in 60 last year. How many guys do we have going in all? Myself, Ithoyts,Wick, DJ,Spit,Doodle,Deerhunter.
Am I missing anyone? I think we can sleep 7 in one cabin with a couple on the floor and couch.

Yeah, They do that from time to time.

My membership was pulled last year, was this one individual whom was a "trad elitist" that he and I got into it fairly heavily. I am an admitted trophy hunter, and that sight pretty much despises "trophy hunters"...it's getting a little more trophy hunting friendly, but it is still despised. SO, they pulled my registration over there, but I still post, they do it by IP address, but it wasn't too much of a problem, I am an engineer for one company, Own my own business, and have a PC at my house...all in all, I have around 15 different IP addresses to choose from on a daily basis.

Your probably not too familiar with the old argument over there last year, but THunderflight, OTS (OLD TWO STICKS), and myself were doing battle for the "Good guys". We had a "campfire" going for a long time, and we used "trad equipment" to keep it burning, that osage has a pretty flame!

Yep, the 1100 post thing got in someones "crawl", is a "bandwidth issue", I say "that's what sponsors are for"! I think that is what started the entire demise of the "bowsite guys", back about a year or so ago, one of the trad threads "got pulled" and some of the trad guys blamed one individual over there for being responsible, then it turned slowly into a big snowball heading for hell, lines were drawn in the sand! It has eased up a bit now though and is getting back to somewhat normal!

I was thinking, and I'll make the offer, I am a pretty good resource for Wayne National Forest, if you all ever want to "rough it (campers and tents) and travel down below Jackson down route 93 a bit, I know a good place to get about 10-20 guys together for an early season weekend or 3 or 4 day bowhunt. ( I say "early season", because come November, It gets a bit chilly in the tent)...let me know if you guys might be interested, there is plenty of land and plenty of deer.

I appreciate the invite, and I might have to cruise over and see you guys, but that week, well let me say this....I hunt about 400 acres of private land around Waverly Ohio, and prying me outta that area in November is pretty tough, I hate to even get off the stand and head to Wendy's to get some chow...afraid I am going to miss something! There is only 2 of us allowed to hunt it, and it's "PRIME TIME" buck habitat! I am getting ready to head down and do some scouting, I'll take a few pic's of some of the rubs I seen this year and post them on here, then you guys will see why it's hard to get me outta there in November...can you say "football size" rubs? I took a buck there this year w/ a 22" inside spread..was an old-timer...had no teeth! Wasn't a booker and I was gonna let him "pass", until he turned my way and I got a good look at his spread. Told my buddy that "He's got a 23 inch spread" when we went to track him...my buddy said "yeah right", well, once we found him, he called me a liar "I thought you said 23 inches, it's only 22",.....hehehhhhe!

Hey oldhat, I would be willing to make a trip down and do some early season hunting. I enjoy staying in tents and "roughing it"! I think i know a couple guys that would be interested in coming down for a few days. Give me some details a little later on what dates you have in mind.
Your right on the money with what you said about the "Bowsite"! At that site if you dont shoot a "stick & string" your an outcast, they dont want anything to do with ya. If you kissed there butts and thought the same way they did they would talk to you. Oh well, i am rid of them. I'm not going back there!!

I, like the rest of you have had it with the bowsite. I've never been kicked off but I did have a post pulled from a thread once.
Seems the administration didn't like the fact that I was always recommending a bowyer that isn't a sponsor.
I'm also sick of the elitist crap on the Leather Wall. I shoot a Black Widow recurve (Which most of them bash.). I use an elevated rest (They say thats not traditional.) and I shoot aluminum and carbon arrows. I also got tired of those that say wood is the only tradtional arrow material and is far superior to alum. and carbon.
There are certain things about the Bowsite admin. that really bother me but I won't go into that here.

woodland_archer
12-21-2002, 10:20 PM
We haven't had any success there for three years now. We always go down for opening day and the second day. This year was really bad though. All the camp grounds were full. There were more fisherman there than bowhunters. I hiked in a mile and set up around a small pond and was interupted by three very noisy fisherman. I packed up and went back to camp.
The whole trip was like that. Didn't matter where I went there were fishermen or hikers. I've never seen it like that before.
Then again it was colder on opening day the past few years.
There are alot of camp grounds on AEP and it's free. All you need is a permit from AEP and thats available on their website.
Since the permit is so easy to get these days that may be a contributing factor to the very large crowds of fishermen and nature lovers.
I went back by myself the second week of the season and the crowds were even worse. Took me 2 hours to find a campsite
at one of the campgrounds. I stayed the night but packed up the next morning and went home. I didn't want a repeat of the previous weekend.

12-21-2002, 11:30 PM
I've been looking for a new place to hunt. I've checked the ODNR website and downloaded a few maps. There are a few places I want to check out before next season.
Deer hunter, AEP has become a nightmare. One thing I can't stand is being crowded out by hikers and fisherman. AEP lands are by no means small. I just can't understand why so many people are packed into such a large area like that. Yeah the fishing there is great, camping is free (with permit), and the deer and turkey populations are decent.
Only one person in my camp saw a deer that weekend and he had to hike in a 2 miles just to find one deer but he didn't even get a shot.. We didn't see any turkeys this year at all. Seems like all the game has been pushed way back in by the crowds. Who the hell wants to drag a deer for 2 miles though. Not me. I'm only willing to drag a mile at the most.

Hay wick are you shooting a older model cve or a new inline,I have to agree with you on the round ball and patch if you are using the older percussion cap but if you are using one of the new inline you have to try 90 grains of powder with 240 grain t/c hollow points awsome combo.

WickOhio
12-23-2002, 11:20 AM
The older traditional not an inline. Just 90 or so grains Pyrodex and round ball. I am however using a shotgun primer and assembly. Real nice to use that primer and screw it on to keep things tight and dry. Can't remember the name of it. I've had it for years. Better than the standard nipple thing.

Caribou Dreamer2
12-23-2002, 11:35 AM

Dear_hunter, AKA Santa Clause

For Christmas I would like any size deer to stand broadside at twentyone and a half yards during the next couple of days. Preferably during Blackpowder season. I would also like to have all my friends to be with me when I harvest this said deer to help me with dragging it out to my truck. If the latter can't happen I will take a 4 wheeler instead. Hey Brian,

Why don't you just teach the one's at your Mom's place to drop right next the truck like at the other property we hunt at. Did anybody hear the story of his first drag this year??? Double - lunged it at 21 1/2 magical yards then it took of and dropped right next to his truck. A 2 foot drag ... what a deal that was.

Had a good time saw a few deer but not shots present,Sure was nice to finally meet one of you guys from your camp(wick),Hay wick had a great time and was nice to finally get to meet you and hunt for the day.Hay maybe next time you will get the doe.Ithoyts dont get to scared when you watch that video make sure you have had a few already. As for the sledding that was a blast.Nothing beat a mid afternoon slid down the hill sides of Zalaski take about building of some good speed the only thing to remember when you go sledding down those hills is once you commit holding on because there is no stopping intill the bottom,And by the way don't try to grab ahold and trees on the way down they hurt HA HA LOL, Heck you should give it a try someday its a blast.Talked to wick about possibly doing a all day hunt in late jan. this year in the same spots.Only a few things that could of happened to have this a better day and that would of been if everybody from both camps could of went down for the day.Maybe we all can hook up on the 3rd or the last weekend of archery season for the all day hunt again.Wick let us know what weekend would be the best for you and the rest of the bunch.

Man had a blast muzzleloading down in Zaleski. With my hunting buddies, Old Caribou Dreamer2 Went slip sliding all the way down a hill while holding his trusty muzzleloader high in the air with his right hand and grabing for trees on his way down with his left hand.

As for me I got checked by a Ranger for not having enough blaze orange on me. If I would of had my gun in my hand it would have costed me some big bucks.

Got to meet old WickOhio at the hunt and I heard that he must be part mountain goat the way he can run up and down them there steep hill.

I found a super Deer highway down in the bottom of one of the big hills down there, The trail is about 4 ft wide worn down about 5 inches from the rest of the valley. I will be back there for my next hunt I just Cant wait.

Alright, we will be down for muzzleloader next year! You guys had more fun down there "sleddin" than you did hunting didn't you? I can't wait until deercamp 2003 at Lake Hope ... we are getting pumped, and this season isn't even over yet. Hey guys, let us know what exactly you want to do for camp next year, we have a lot of planning to do !

Q2XL
12-29-2002, 05:14 PM
cant tell you ITHOYTS,WICk will have to tell you. yea thats what it was mountain bike trails not deer trails. hey WICK you back yet or are you still out huntin. been waitin to see if you did any good or not.me headin back to a real good area that saw alot of deer yesterday.maybe tommorrow will be my day.

Dear_Hunter
12-29-2002, 07:59 PM
Hey Guys The terrain down there is way way too steep for a mountain bikes and I do know the differrent from deer track and a dang BMX. Maybe the new tread on the bike tires are deer track design nobbies but I dont think so, But if you old timers say they are bikes then they are bike trail. Well I guess I will be fielddressing a BMX bike next year after deer camp. :D

OLDHAT
12-29-2002, 08:15 PM
Well, I have not been a round for a few days and after looking through this thread, it seems a few of you might be interested in a hunt in my "neck of the woods" next season.

I was thinking around Halloween time, the bucks are just starting to perk up , and it's a good time to hunt (and typically not too cold) The area I have planned is on "The Wayne", there is a nice little patch of pines to "pitch a tent in" and you can walk all day and stay on public hunting land. There are a lot of deer, and some good bucks. I hunted the area for 4 or 5 years but left out of it in 95 to chase a big buck in another area.

If any of you are interested in a late season bow hunt to kinda check out the area, let me know and I am game. I still have a doe tag to fill (been years since I have killed a doe, but with a few fellas around to help me drag her out, then I might just have to shoot one).

Outside of the Camp, if any of you guys want to hunt the area, then your welcome to it...won't have to worry about crowding me out or anything.

I won't be a personal guide, but will point you guys in the right direction. There are a few "honey holes" that I know of and we'll flip a coin/draw straws as to who gets to hunt them during camp. The hollow is a few miles long, and it's all national forest, lots of room. I thumped every nook and cranny of the hollow and can say that there is a "pot-load" of deer anywhere one chooses to hunt.

The last time I checked, there was only one bowhunter in the entire hollow and after talking to him earlier this year, he didn't plan on hunting it and told me to not worry about him, that he doesn't get to hunt much any more. It gets hit in Gun season, but as far as bowhunting, I don't think there is anyone hunting it.

If you guys are interested, start a thread called "Indian Creek Deer Camp" and we'll work out the details.

Sounds great old hat will have to get with the rest of the bunch and see what they all want to do maybe we can come down and do a all dayer just to meet and check out the area,As for camp i don't think any of us would leave Zalaski.

Whats going on everybody? Have'nt been on in quite some time and thought i would check in. Been real busy around here with hunting, butchering a couple deer, and just your everyday hustle bustle. I am helping butcher another deer today about noon and then capeing a buck that a guy is getting mounted.

Hey Oldhat, count me in on that Halloween bowhunt. Maybe we could set a date for a little scouting trip after the season since i am done hunting for the year.

Sounds like you guys had a good time down South. We saw alot of deer up here but no shots. Saturday morning was the day to be out. My brother and I had 15 deer come in on us. One of them was that big buck. Awesome morning! Yesterday was pretty good also. Scott Phillips shot two deer. He got a real nice 8pt. in the morning and a huge doe last night. That doe is bigger than the buck was!

WickOhio
12-30-2002, 08:02 AM
Great time Friday in Zaleski. To bad about that doe. I shot my rifle first thing in Logan and my shot was 10 inches to the right and 4 inches low. I must have pumped my scope on the trip. I corrected it and hunted the rest of the weekend. I must have hit her low to the right which would have been under her belly. Oppps. That is hunting sometimes. Thanks guys for letting me hunt with you. I enjoyed your company and looking forward to the next adventure!!

Spitfire
12-30-2002, 08:39 AM
Like I said, its been pretty busy around here. Most or all of us have been sick at one time or the other, which makes for real crappy holidays. The wife was off all last week so I did alot of rabbit hunting. I found a huge buck on one of my rabbit hunts. He was a definite P&Y entry for someone, it's unfortunate they did'nt find him.

rjolenic
12-30-2002, 09:20 AM
Good to hear from all of you and glad the Holidays are drawing to a close. It's been very busy for me as well. Hey bodoodle, how about we hook up on those arrows we were talking about. I will get the fletching and send it to you this week. I need arrows!!!!!!!!!! Hope you all have a great New Year's and keep in touch with the stories.

Caribou Dreamer2
12-30-2002, 10:17 AM
Sounds good to me so the last weekend of the archery season then.I bet we will have the park to ourselves most people would have givin it up for the year or have gotten there deer by now or however many they wanted.I would love to hunt that area again just to see what has and what is moving back there even if i don't get a deer out of there this year, i think it will produce for someone next year at camp.
