How does everyone like the fall turkey season? I would imagine there is a lot less competetion out there!

I "Think" I would like it alot. I have never hunted them in the fall as SW Ohio is restricted and the funds don't allow me this year to head down south but if I were bowhunting in a fall turkey county you could bet there would be a fall turkey permit in my wallet.

I like it. Its pretty easy harvesting those fall birds if you can get one em. I see em alot bowhunting and once I know where a flock is roosting and feeding its really easy to setup and intercept coming from or goin to the roost....Plus its nice to get revenge on some hens...lol

Haha! I hear ya. I had 3 hens teasing me all spring. Never saw a gobbler with them. All I could do was watch them eat and wish it was fall.
I've seen alot of big toms in the last couple of days while bowhunting for deer. This one big tom has 2 10inch beards on him, and I've seen him twice.

Opening day I had 4 jakes and a beautiful Tom with an 8"+ beard walk within 10 yards of my stand. I just practiced placing my pin right on his head, and then sighed in frustration that the fall season isn't open yet. And you can bet as soon as fall turkey comes in i won't have another chance at them!!!

Same here! I have had Jakes, Toms, and Hens under my stand every evening. I bet they won't be within 2 miles of that stand come opening day! lol
Good hunting,

Those turkeys must have access to the season calendar!

Fall season is definitely a hole different ball game as compared to spring...It's definitely the time when you can take your aggression out on those pesky ladies...and if you can nail a big tom during the fall it's always a plus..
Purrrfect the ki-ki run..and that will help in your success in the field this fall.

I spent 24 bucks on a tag so I dont really like it right now. But...if I manage to get one before thanksgiving, it will be a different story. Ive seen a lot of turkeys but since I bought my tag today...well we all know how that goes.

I think $24 is a bit pricey for a turkey tag.

I was watching a little doe this morning eating some corn under my feeder when the whole hill side to my left was covered in birds. I saw one tom thiat I know of
At one time I counted 20, but only 11 came to the feeder and they chased off the doe. After a few minutes, they scurried off because three more does came into the woods.
I've never been turkey hunting.....that might change though!

You better check the regulations. The corn in your feeder has to be gone for ten days. Otherwise, you'd be baiting. Thats illegal.

I just read that on the odnr web site today. I won't pay that much for a turkey permit anyway.

Do you all call the same way you would in the spring season?

That's a pretty loaded question.
But, it's more like I wouldn't want to clean a turkey. I can't justify killing one just because it's there and in season. And yes, $24 is still a little steep.
My feeder was intender for deer. Getting to watch the turkeys was a bonus.

You can bait deer according to the dnr regulations just not turkeys or waterfowl.
Got them patterned like clockwork in an area I hunt. We'll see if they are still there come the opener.
