GRAND RIVER, Ohio - More than 100 women will wet their lines as the Northcoast Limbhangers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Grand River Marine Charter Group host a Women in the Outdoors fishing event on Aug. 27 at the Grand River Marina in Grand River, Ohio.
"This is a unique fishing event on Lake Erie," said Renee O'Brokta, Women in the Outdoors regional coordinator. "Many women who live in Ohio have never had the opportunity to fish, much less fish on Lake Erie. This is a great, inexpensive way for them to learn more about angling and enjoy a day on the lake."
Through this event, women from all walks of life will be given the chance to experience the thrill of outdoor activities such as a half-day perch fishing charter, basic fishing, boater safety, boat trailering, lure making and much more. It will also allow women to develop a greater understanding of wildlife conservation and meet others who share their enthusiasm.
The Women in the Outdoors program's mission is to provide hands-on, educational outdoor opportunities for women.
"The Women in the Outdoors program allows the NWTF to reach an entirely new audience that was once overlooked in the outdoor industry," said Rob Keck, NWTF CEO.
The Grand River event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Registration cost is $75, which includes a Lake Erie perch lunch, half day on a charter fishing boat and two other fishing-related courses. For more information or to register for the Grand River Women in the Outdoors event, contact Janet Disque at (440) 256-6839.
The Women in the Outdoors events are held across the country with experts on hand to teach in a non-competitive manner. The combination of sponsorship and local chapter support allows the NWTF to offer these programs at a low cost to participants. The cost of attending each event includes a membership in Women in the Outdoors program and a subscription to Women In The Outdoors magazine, the Federation's full-color, quarterly publication with articles and information on a variety of outdoor adventures and activities.
