I am still very new to flathead fishing. i come to you guys cause i know you guys know what your talking about. I normally go down to pike island dam and fish the ohio river for flatheads and tappan lake. But i do know that the flatheads are closer to me up in the maumee river.
What i want to know is where about in northwest ohio toledo is only alittle over an hour away and beats a 4 hour drive to try for them. I really want to find the locations but have never even fished the maumee before. Not even the walleye run have i.
So ive heard a few things from people yesterday at cabellas that providence dam over by grand rapids has some flatheads is this true? Also where at up in them areas of the Maumee that are closer to me are they located??? Are there some real nice big ones in the 30 + range up there? Just wondering. Im excited to know there up by toledo and its alot closer drive for us so i can target them alot more this summer without such a long drive.
Also does anybody know any websites that talk about the maumee up here for flatheads or any baitstores in that area i can goto to talk to them about it and try to learn the area better for spring?
thanks

I'll offer some advice there Craig, move down here. Fish in the Ohio River, try Clendening and Piedmont. And most of all keep an eye on what FishNasty does, that guy really seems to know what he's doing.

Hey there not foolin around about Providence dam. There is some hole there that holds them. I heard some idiot talking about snagging a 20 pounder there today. Yes he kept it. Thats one of 3 I know of in the last year that were caught there. Theres a hole near the Waterville bridge too.

yes i have heard there have been some 20's and a 30 + caught ouf of this same area last year. i am going to try it out this year. the thing is why would someone snag a flathead and then to top it off why keep it??? lol i would of released even a 20 pounder let it get bigger espeically that area of the state there not being caught that i know of over 40 yet so letting them grow and releasing them will only make that a better spot to fish in years to come
just my opinion

no i have never said that...i have said when you bring them upstream and even if its a 2-3 pounder it is like bringing in a big one on heavy duty...you are probably confusin the numbers with the line poundage i use which is 40-80# superbraids...i have even memtioned before a few times i'd like to give it a try to bring in a super big rivercat on the light outfit with heavy line...as mentioned then i had great concern about having only 90 yds. line on the lil reel

04-24-2003, 08:33 AM
LOL...A big cat will strip that line off quickly..LOL
