View Full Version : How many stands do you hunt?

I'm asking this question out of curiosity. I often hear folks saying they have been hunting "their stand" every weekend and not seeing nothing. It make me wonder how many people just hang one stand and only hunt that one stand...or maybe two stands all season. I have quite a few different stands I hunt throughout the season. Unless I have easy access where I know I'm not bumping deer and making a bucnh of racket I usually only hunt certain stands a couple times a yr. My very best stands are usually saved for the first cold days the begining of Nov. Some of these stands are great setups but hard to get into without educating the deer so I save them for peak conditions so they aren't burned out by then.
Whats your take...do you hunt a bunch of stand sites a few times a yr. or do you just have a couple good stands that you hunt hard all season??

I'll have four this year.

The wind usually dictates which one I'll hunt.

Just one, and it is very productive. In the last two years I have taken 4 deer from it, an 11 point,a 6 point,a button buck and a doe.

I have 2 stands up, and numerous spots for my climber. It all depends on what the wind and the animals have been doing.

We have 80 acres that is kind of chunked up in 1/4's. I have 5 stand sets, 1 ground blind, and 4 trees marked for climbing. I love to have options for different winds and movement patterns (i.e. acrons vs. crops).

I currently have 4 stands up, 1 ground blind, 2 climber spots ready. I will move stands around as the season wears on when the deer start changing their patterns.

I have 3 hang ons set up and two climbers. One climber is on a tree, but I don't move it around much. I use it during gun season. It's too loud for bowhunting. I just got a new climber which I cannot wait to use. This is on 40 acre property where I'd say we hunt 30 of it.

i have over 100 stand sites, prolly even double that or more, prolly lots more...i am counting every one that i continue to use to this day,i have some i used in the 60s...and i see deer from every one of them...in a season i may use over 20 different sites...they are located on public land and on at least 10 different private land areas...of course the bulk is on public land...i prolly average at least 10 good stands on private land...this includes tree stands, natural ground stands and natural caves...:mischeif:

I move every time, only hunted the same site twice. Mostly I'm hunting from the ground but when I go up I use a Tree Saddle so I can go wherever I want.

I have 5 stands and 2 ground blinds in Hancock County, plus a great spot on a small piece of public land that I sit inside a laydown. In Wood county I have 3 stands and a ground blind. I usually set up my stands for very lttle impact getting to a from so That I can hunt whenever. However, 2 of my stand force me to get kinda close so I ghunt those at more prferred times.

I have 4 stands for each wind direction. N,S,E,W....... that makes 16 stands that I hunt pretty regularly. 4 of those stands are morning only stands. All stands are between 550yards to 10 miles from my house. Ive never been patterned by deer from using a stand too much. Lately Ive been buying more stands(when on sale) and putting them up in real thick brush(bedding areas) for late season hunting.

I have an unlimited amout of stands, due to the fact that I take my stand with me every time I enter and exit the woods. I never leave a stand! I don't need my stand to be stolen, or someone else finding it and thinking they're going to set up 10 yards from my stand. :irked:

I set up according to the wind direction and the line of travel of the deer. :)

Good hunting, Bowhunter57
