2006 Huron Hawgfest Now Taking Entries
The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) and Ohio Game Fishing (OGF) are proud to announce the details for the 2006 Huron Hawgfest to be held on September 23 at the Huron Boat Basin brought to you by Evinrude E TEC, Sharpnack II Chevrolet and WKYC TV-3. This is the third annual event and all indications are that the 58 boat field from last year will be eclipsed and the tournament limit of 100 boats might be reached.
This is a unique event in that it is open to any size team from 2 to 6 people but there is a limit of 6 rods in place to level the playing field. There is also a reduced entry fee for the 2 person teams. Another unique part of this event is the catered dinner, awards ceremony and party held after the weigh in when the top finishing teams receive their awards and share how they caught the winning fish. The awards dinner is open for people that don’t fish the tournament also.
For the anglers the day will start early with registration and boat inspection at the Huron Boat Basin. At registration the teams will find coffee and donuts provided by West Marine to get their morning off to a good start. With over 60 boats there will be two flights for the tournament with the first flight leaving at 7:30 AM and the second flight leaving at 8 AM. The weigh in will begin at 3:30 in the afternoon when the first flight returns and continue with the second flights return at 4 PM.
When the fish have all been weighed the festivities will move to the Plantation Motel in Huron for the dinner and awards ceremony. The dinner will be catered by Ray Sterk Catering, is open to the public and as in years past there is no charge all though donations are welcomed to help offset the cost. There will be raffles and door prizes of merchandise and also a raffle for one of five charter fishing trips through out the awards ceremony.
