I have had a mossburg 500 in the 12 gauge for many years and have had no problems with it,But it very seldom see any action but once a week any more since i put the rifle barrel and scope for deer. But i will have to say it has knocked down many deer in it life.

Its always a matter of choice but for the money I like the 870 Remington better. I have both. If you can, shoot some different models before you buy.

Buy an 870 and give it to your son, daughter, or grandkids someday!!! They are great guns and last forever if you take care of them.

I have owned a Mossberg 500 for over 15 years (12 guage). Great all-purpose gun. I beat the heck out of the thing and it still shoots like it is brand new. I believe the 870 is at least $100 more expensive, but I may be wrong. It is a good gun too.

Did the GM store you visited have the Benelli Nova's on sale? GM in Dayton had CAMO finished Benelli Nova's for CHEAP! Can't recall the exact price but it was in the mid $200 range?!?!
For what it's worth I have both a Mossberg 500 & Remington 870 I picked up for my kids and they are great "entry level" shotguns for those just getting into shot gunning or shooting. The difference to me between these two guns is like comparing Ford & Chevy trucks!
What do I know I drive a GMC and prefer to shoot Beretta or Benelli scatter guns!?!?!

Its a coin toss between the Moss and the 870. Both are good guns for the $$$$. I've owned a few of both over the years.
