Anyone else read the August Field and Stream yet?
For those that have, I have a great idea. I'm combined the advice of Mike Rex and Michael Widell.....in order to save time, be more effecient, and stay on stand longer, I've decided to polish my dog WHILE on stand!
Whattaya think?

County,
I've never been able to find another link for the free F&S.
Polish the dog? I have no idea. But the August issue of F&S has their typical 50 best tips for big bucks, blah, blah...Inside that article, they interview about a dozen "experts" from around the country for advise. One of those quoted was no other than Mike Rex.
Mike's quote was in the attitude section. He opens with something like you'll never see a successful big buck hunter who has to stay home and polish the dog.....essentially his message was guys who are successful deer hunters always have grass that needs mowed, garage needs cleaned, wife mad at you, etc....
But I had just never heard the term "Polish the dog" before. So obviously, I had to make up my own meaning.

to me one thing i see about sucessful deer hunters are,the ones who take big deer consistantly for many years...they live where they hunt, many buy their own land or lease and recently the use of artificial feeding and trail cams...this is what a serious hunter does today...i myself had a 3 year run on nice bucks...i used no type trail cam...no food source and did not buy my land or lease it...2 deer were from national forest...one from private property of a relative...no money was involved...and all the deer were "lucked" into...none were over 150...i dont think...but all definately are p$y...THE ONLY REASON I WAS SUCESSFUL WAS...I LIVED WHERE I HUNTED AT THE TIME...AND I OWNED MY OWN BUSINESS,I BASICALLY TOOK ARCHERY SEASON OFF TO HUNT...ALL 3 DEER I SCREWED UP CHANCES TO GET THEM...ONE 5 TIMES,I GOT HIM THE SIXED TIME...HAVING SLIGHTLY WOUNDING HIM ONCE...NOW THAT I'M IN THE CITY 60 MILES FROM WHERE I HUNT...I HAVE TAKEN ONE NICE DEER IN BOUT 15 YRS...I JUST DONT GET THAT MUCH TIME I NEED...AND BASICALLY THATS ALL THATS NEEDED IN MY OPINION...and i like huntin the old fashion way...:mischeif:
