There's an organization called Ohio Boar Busters (they have a website by the same name) in Southeastern Ohio. I found out about them on the web, but have no other information. I would like to get involved in hunting wild hogs in southern Ohio, but their website isn't very informational.
I hunted hogs in Vinton county, just north of Londonderry, about 6 years ago. I seen them once while hunting for them, but they're very fast and were in cover in seconds. :irked:
Has anyone heard of these guys?
Does anyone have any information on specific areas in S.E. Ohio with hog populations?
I may be making some more contacts via the DNR, due to the information that I read in the Ohio Outdoor News about hogs in S.E. Ohio. :)
Your opinions and experience is appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

There are wild hogs in champaign county, only problem is it's all private property and hard to get access.I have personally seen 6 razor backs that have been killed so far from one group of guy's after them. Sure they got away from a rancher but it has been about 6 years ago they escaped. They are very wary and are prospering well. They have since populated from an estimated 24 originally got loose to over 80 of them now. From the stories i hear from guy's that have land to hunt them on, i believe there around to stay for a while.
I have also hunted them in the area of Tar Hollow state park, seen plenty of sign from them and had 1 sighting of 1 fleeing the area on our way back in to watering holes.
Initially they may have come from ranches but they are definately out there in areas. Once they make a stronghold they are there to stay and boy can they root up a woods and quickly.
I hope you can find the info your lookin for, they make for a lot of fun to hunt
before and after deer season.

razor,
I was hunting just north of Tar Hollow, on some private ground off of county road 45 or "C-45", as it's listed in the Ohio Gazetteer. Like yourself, the hogs I seen were "rocketing" through the thickest briars before I could get my rifle on them. They were probably on the far side of the moon, before I took another step. :cheeky-smiley-022:

You've said nothing wrong there. I talked with several of the local residents and they all told me the same story of the "hunting preserve" in southern Hocking county who's owner blames them for letting their hog stock get loose and causing this "wild hog population". :tsk: However, a drive through the area will open anyone's eyes to the fact that nobody in that area has hogs. The locals have cows, horses or chickens. :irked: There were places around that "hunting preserve" where 4 people could hold hands and duck under the fences. :16suspect1:
Thank you for the info about Champain county. I'll check them out too.
Good hunting, Bowhunter57

do us all a favor and kill all of them you can. we don't need wild hogs in ohio . the damage they cause to the enviroment is detrumental to the native wildlife . they litterly destroy the whole forest understory . and don't bet they are all ones that got loose from hunting preseves , they've show up in areas that there never have been any preserves , guys are buying them or live trapping them and turning them loose on purpose . there is open season on them for a reason, the dnr wants them all dead and for good reason .

the hogs that got loose from the canned hunt farm in hockin county have been almost wiped out...when they first got loose from the preserve the deer gun hunters were really layin em low...but each yr. it got less and less...and for the last few yrs. i've seen no reports on any hogs being kilt...i really believe it will be a disappointin hog hunt there an a waste of time...there is a huntin store in logan called ohio valley...perhaps they know more bout this...when the hogs were there i remember seein pics of them durin gun season in this store...:mischeif:
