I'm sixteen and really starting to get into bowhunting.. I just bought a deer feeder and I was wondering what kinds of stuff i could use. last year i planted a food plot with just soy beans and i was able to shoot a nice doe out of it. I have a pretty big farm to hunt. I wanted to plant another food plot in the woods but i dont know what to use.

Are you asking what to put in the feeder also? If so, I would stick to cracked corn in the feeder. DONT put that deer chow stuff in there...its like dog food; when it gets wet it swells and you have a mess :yikes:

As for food plots, Im sure there are some people on here that can help you with that...

Is this spot in the woods or in a field, how much sunlight does it get, perferablly at least 4 hours and if at least 4 hours there are a few plots that require littl ground preparation.

I plan on putting the food plot in the woods. I was wondering what was the best, like biologic or what do you prefer?? Usually i put crushed corn, soy beans and bean meal. but the powdery stuff get's clogged. I wanted to try mollasses I heard that was good also.

My advice is to forego the feeder, make a small huntable plot of an irregular shape in the woods. If you are already huntign on a farm, there is plenty to eat for the deer you just need a way to concentrate them in bow range. I would plant one of the hardy cold species in my plot so it would get hit hardest durign the season.

You don't need a feeder in Ohio. There's plenty of food for them and you can use that to your advantage.

However if your going to use a feeder here is what I used last season in North Carolina.

I mixed 150 pounds of corn with 50 pounds of sweet feed. The key is to make sure you feeder is water proof. If the sweet feed gets wet then your screwed. If the corn gets wet it'll mold and your still screwed.

BTW if you put to much sweet feed in your feeder it'll clog up.

we are gonna try biologic green patch plus, it has clover, brassicas, wheat, and oats, should be a great fall plot.If you are looking for something with little soil preparation biologic hotspot, whitetail institue secret spot,or whitetail institute no-plow.

Like OHBOW76 said make it irregular in shape, an hourglass or better yet a circle could be good, set a stand up in the center that way every spot a deer could step into the plot you have a good shot whithin bowrange.
