My son shot a very young jake first day of youth season weighed 15 lbs.,I heard of another jake that went 17 lbs..I shot a 2 year old this morning that hadn't eaten for a long while and it still weighed over 20 lbs. Most of the 2 year olds I've shot in the past only went from 15 to 18 lbs. What do you guys think?

I killed a 20 lbs jake on opening morning. Checked it in at the DNR where they officially weighed it. I thought it was pretty big for a jake. My neighbor killed a jake that went 14 lbs.

I also saw a 20# jake being weighted in Monday. Biggest one I've ever seen.

I shot a 2 year old bird Tuesday that went 20#'s at the local check station scale but I suspect the scale was not accurate. I weighed it on another "certified" scale and it came in at 18.5# and this seemed more accurate to me.

Last year every bird weighed at a check station in Morgan county weighed 17#'s and I knew my bird was over 20# and when we checked the scale it was damaged and would not go beyond 17#! The DNR provides the scales and the store owner said his had not been calibrated or inspected since the gave it to him 5-6 years ago????

I have my own deer scale and I'm thinking I neeed to invest in a good scale for turkeys!
