I am using primos The Freak and i was woundering if i need to use a diffrent call or something. I have seen them back there last week and now nothing. What should i do.

hmmmm...are you seeing any turkey sign at all?

No gobbles huh...

well theyre probably there, just staying quiet. What I would do is sit in one spot and do very little calling. Im talkin like some yelps every 30 or 40 minutes. Just my opinion though... Anyone else??

hang in there readytoride, it'll happen for ya.

They are more than likely still there. They might be henned up right now though. Also, quite often early in the season a gobbler will gobble on the roost and then once he leaves it he will shut up. That is another indication of being henned up. I would say just to be paitent and not call to much. If they are there they will let you know eventually.

what time are you getting to the woods? are you there before they wake up? are you there before they fly down? If you are hunting between 5:30 am and 7:30 am and not hearing any gobbling whatsoever, i'd say you have a lack of bird problem. Also, go out in the evening and listen to them pitch into the trees and possibly gobble a few last times in the tree before they go to bed. That time would be between 8:15-8:35 pm. Good luck hope you hear some birds.

What Double drop said is good advice.
Also, if a Tom is roosted with several hens, he may not gobble at all. He will just fly down with them. You might also try watching the open fields if you aren't able to locate any birds. Eventually they will show up there.
Good luck

I had the same problem today in Carroll county. I was in the woods at 5:30. I heard one far away gobble at about 7:00, the one bird gobbled 3 times at about 9 and he gobbled twice at 11. I've hunted this same property for the past 5 years and I've never heard it this quiet before. Maybe it had something to do with the weather.

Try shock gobbling them, I have a Primos Hoot Flute and that does the job pretty well. I even called in these same two owls 3 times on saturday with it, once in early morning, once in mid morning, and then again that evening. I also have the Primos Triple Shock, the Power Crow, and a redtailed hawk, but the owl call works best right now for me.

Jayme,

I tried my Owl call and Crow call this morning. The thing is, when the bird gobbled at 9 and 11, I was pretty close to him, he actually moved closer when he gobbled at 9, I'm thinking a hen or hens intercepted him and I think he still had them later. Oh well, there is always Saturday.

sounds like very good advice DD and Ed.

Keep the "hoot tube" in your vest. I am a firm believer these old gobblers get smart to these owl locator calls. People use them way too much. Nothing worse than setting up early in the morning to hear some jack owl hooting every 50 yards down the ridge or loggin roads. One thing I cannot stand and I am sure there are others out there that agree. Put the thing up, sit down, and be patient. This isn't Texas. People watch too many of these hunting movies. If they don't gobble, then put your scouting to use and find a good strutting area or feeding area. On opening day my father had two guys (one trespassing) owl hooting for a solid 20 min straight.................for what? What is the point of this?

Is it possible that they left for another area? I only have about 15 acres of hunting land thats just wood behind my house. I am the only one that hunts turkey all around us i mean there are a lot of woods around me just that all i can hunt on.

what are they responding to the barred owl or the great horned owl.
