Very nice looking rifle you built there. I have 3 Nagants, a 91/30,m44,and m38. My 91/30 is very accurate. I was hitting clay pigeons sitting on the brem at 250 yards with open sights. I would love to put some glass on that one.

The absolute best part about those guns is the price. Inexpensive to say the least but certainly not cheap.
I have two of those. One, I rebarreld the action to a true 308 bore (Lots more bullets to choose from), and the other I left alone so I could fire brass to reload. The one I rebarreled still has the factory stock with a "how in the hell can that be accurate" side mount detachable scope base. Its a sleeper to be sure, and is slick as greased cat snot, and plenty accurate.
Good Job rescuing a rifle from obscurity. That 500 yard mark is closer than you think. Good Luck.

Have fun guy it is fun to take an old rifle and transform it into a new modern look.
The scope is a simmons whitetail classic 6.5x20x50 very nice scopes for the money.I own about 13 simmons scope and 2 nikon scopes and the simmons scope is just as clear as any high end scope.

Thisbucks4u:What kind of load data do you have for this caliber.I was think about reloading mine down to 110 grain v max bullet(.308 caliber)running 54 grains of H335.which should put me into the 3300 fps range Which on a calm day i think i could reach that 500 yard range!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not much of a gunsmith, one reason I've held off is some told me someyhing once about installing the bolt. Something about the bolt face space or something? Does any of that sound familiar? Don't want to blow myself up:yikes:

The bolt that i installed was not very hard at all ,I had plenty of room on the plate to drill and tap for the screw ,also the bolt plate sat real flush to the action. The hardest thing i though about the project was getting the scope base level before drilling i had three levels on the gun at all times before getting it square and readt to drill.
Good luck and have fun with it.

I use win 748 powder for it (Im cheap, and use 748 in my 223's as well). For the 110 grainers I load 49.5 grains, but according to the LEE hardback manual and common sense, Id start with 46 grains and cautiously work up from there.
49.5 gets me roughly 3000 fps. Not exactly a scorcher, but my 10 year old nephew shoots it comfortably and it groups them pretty damn well. (Nope, Im not gonna tell you it shoots sub .5's all day long, LMAO).

I used to own a Finnish Mosin-Nagant M-39 that I purchased at the Lima gun show for $80. It is a shooter! 180gr. soft point S&B ammo will give me 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. :)
I would imagine that if I were to reload for it and mount a scope on it, it would be a very accurate rifle for longer ranges.
However, I sold it for $100 to a guy that I work with. :coco: I should probably buy it back from him.
