Greetings everyone.

I just found this site and am curious about Ohio hunting opportunities. I've heard a lot of good things about Ohio and the massive bucks and overall huge population of deer. So, I just signed up to find out for myself, are the "monster buck" rumors really true? ;)

Honestly, I am really considering a trip this coming season to Ohio to go deer hunting. An out of state license isn't a big concern. I just am looking at all public land areas, Wayne Natl Forest, Shawnee State Forest, etc.... and even an outfitter or two.

I current own/hunt with these weapons:
An old Marlin 30-30 rifle (can't use in Ohio, if I recall...)
A Remington 870 12GA shotgun.
A brand new 2006 Reflex Highlander compound bow.

I look forward to reading a lot of good things on this site and learning where to go in Ohio (and also where NOT to go) this coming season for my hunting trip.

Butch A.

Welcome Butch!

Yes it's true, Ohio is a fantastic place to hunt whitetails! Lots of great public land. We dont have to go tellin everyone:shhh:

This is also a good site to possibly hook up with some people for a hunt or two.

Yes, the 30-30 you cannot use for whitetail.

Enjoy OS, you picked the right place to find informaion on Ohio Hunting!

Thank you for the reply!

Here's some more info/background if you are curious...

My neighbor and his wife are from Chillicothe (spelled right?) and while he no longer hunts (he's in his 60's), he has told me many stories of Ohio and deer hunting and rabbit hunting with beagles.

Regarding myself, I am not originally from Richmond, VA. I moved here when I retired from the U.S. Coast Guard. I am originally from Poughkeepsie, NY (upstate NY about 2 hours north of NYC).

I have been all through Ohio and used to be stationed in Cleveland many years ago too. It's a great state with beautiful rolling hillsides and MONSTER DEER! :D

Man, you mentioned chillicothe....Talk about some monster deer...

Have you watched any of the Slunger Hollow Videos? If not, they were filmed in ross county, mostly in chillicothe.

Good luck in your ohio hunting! Like I said, there is some fantastic public land, and with a little scouting, you should be able to bag yourself a nice buck.

Welcome to the forum. :) Shawnee holds some real class deer, it's just so big there is alot of ground to cover and easy to get lost. Good Luck.
