A little windy today but though I would go out with my best friend and do a little stump shooting. As he is a yellow lab he wasn't much for conversation but it is fun watching him find a retrieve the arrows that I shot. It is funny when he sees me pulling back on the bow he stops and watches me shoot then runs towards where the arrow went.

Killed several stumps and popped a noch off of one of the arrows ( stump too hard) Also got a bucket, a pop can and a couple of pop bottles. We picked up the trash that we found and threw it away.

No sheds found but we did see a rabbit and a deer.

When I was at FLOJAM one of the Bear Bay members had a lab that was an arrow finding son of a gun.

If you lost an arrow that dog would find it and then bring it back to ya.

Whats the purpose of shooting stumps other than breaking your arrows.

Learning how to judge unknown yardage, get out in fresh air and carry the bow for practice. Take the dog on a nice walk and get some exersice myself.
It is like a walking workout. I use judo points and blunts on the arrow so as not to tear them up and a heavy wlled arrow like a 2117 also helps. Standing at a stationary target gets boring sometimes...:)

Oh and I didn't trash any arrows, just hit one stump that was too hard and the noch popped off..;)

man you aint seen anything til you watch that beautiful arching arrow, tipped with a zwicky judo, end its flight by smashing into an old stump blowing it to bits followed by a puff of reddish dust...:mischeif:

Your arrow has alot less force behind it so you don't break or loose as many as you would think.

It's a great way of calibrating your brain for judging distances too.

coonie , if your gonna shoot , you should shoot your best arrows . junky arrows dont fly well , and therfor practice with them isnt up to snuff ,just some words of wisdome , i dont shoot stumps . i shoot leaves and such , alot easier on your arrows , and i like to shoot 30 to as far as my arrow will fly . great practice.. h

I checked into stump'n on base.

Basically it's a no-no because the only way your allowed in the woods during the off season is for scouting. The base regs don't allow you to have a weapon in your possession while scouting.

very pleased with that browning xplorer and my one 2016 alum. arrow yesterday i took...boy that arrow was really on...definately the best arrow i have shot in a long time...not one miss...and its reasonably priced, well sorta its a legacy wood grain look...high dollar arrow for me...i normally just use the standard gamegetter 2 camo, but thats all i could find in 2016...that arrow was a 2016 alum.(AS MENTIONED) 29" total length and approx.480 gr...about 10 gr. per bow pound DEPENDING ON the bows i use,RANGING FROM 46 TO 50#...Nothing done fancy to my ARROW...just plain parabolic 5" feathers and a 125 gr. field point...no fancy crest, nocks ,etc...this ARROW took out almost every leaf i shot at and was very close on the ones i missed...i took prolly 30-40 shots...i'm very pleased with this arrow and certainly reccomend it...but do believe the cheaper gg2 ARROW would have worked just as well...and remember...straight arrows will improve your accuracy...

go buy a 1500 dollar bow...custom fit just to perfection to your style...shoot an arrow out of it that is real crooked...or way out of spine or both...you can cut a branch from a tree...put a string on it...match an arrow with perfection...that stick will out perform the custom...:mischeif:

Custom bow?

For the manufacturer maybe because the bowyer incorperates his own style in the bow and is sold to the masses. Each custom bowyer has his own little flair or something different about his bow that will fit most but not all. About the only thing that makes it a custom bow for the archer is he can choose which model and what woods are used.

One of these days I would like to go to a custom bowyer and tell exactly how to make the bow to fit just me. :bouncy: That would be a custom bow in my eyes..:)

i have yet to see a custom bow where the grip feels any different than any of my bows...most order a custom bow choose the wood or glass color thats put in them and can have more length choices in each model bow,i remember fred bear having 3 different rubber grips you could slip on his bows,lg med sm...its mainly about looks...many if not most buy custom bows off the rack at deer shows and from the bowyer or vendors at bow shoots...their is a very few that know that much to have modifications put into a bow concerning performance and this is prolly true of most bowyers making the bows...i think the best way to get a real custom bow is to make your own...and to shoot it just before its done and to make modifictions that will help your form or hunting preferences...i have done this with selfbows...:mischeif:

this lil giblet is called the plyflex white eagle...its the last bow i picked up ...its 36# and 54" long...sorta looks like an intermediate bow...its got the old type fiberglas of the 50s...its got the ole ben pearson pony bow look...pistol grip handle...made very good...and boy does it shoot hard...it does not say it on the bow but i suspect its 36# at 24"...very posible with a 54" intermediate bow...easily making it a 45# bow at 28"...i havent pulled it full draw yet...poor lil thing had 2 twisted limbs...but now it dont...maybe somebuddy knows more than me on this plyflex bow...possibly made by pearson...:mischeif:

Hoot,

You are right, I talked with Mr. Assenheimer about doing just that and he said it would be no problem. But he already has a nice grip though on his bows, but there is always room for improvement.:)
