My dad has all that gear. He went around to different gatherings and such in the last 2 years to learn some of the trade. He has made some nice spear points on his own. I was impressed with it. It's not easy. Cool hobby.

Hoot are you posting these pictures from your computer? If so you'll need to down load them either on OS.com's gallery or in a photobucket account. Once you do that then right click and select properties. Highlight the address and paste in the box that comes up when you select IMG.

Hoot, Very nice, looks like a dovetail spear. Do you think the native Americans used the dovetails for spears or knives or both?? No way of proving I guess, just theory.

I must be seeing things. I would swear the first pic I looked at is different than the one I'm seeing now. This one looks like more like a knife. Really nice.

I was under the impression that Ohio law requires steel broad heads on arrows used for deer, but a quick perusal of the regs doesn't address the material. Did it used to? All it says is that the arrow head must be 3/4" inch wide or more and have two cutting edges, minimum. So that permits bone points, too. Bone is alot easier to find and work than flint; the Plains peoples used it fairly often.
Has anyone made or tried antler tip points? They show up alot in Woodland archeological sites here in the East. The consensus was that they were probably war points. Their bullet shape excludes 'em from legal deer hunting today.

Hoot, I got a piece of catlinite I'm gonna make an effigy pipe for my old man out of. If you ever run into any Ohio pipestone, let me know. I don't think I could find it down in Portsmouth.......
