Ok guys i always though when shooting trad bows you alway wanted big heavy arrows so you could get the engery (The smack) when hunting because the lack of speed(Like 2117 2216 2219 with 125 head),But it seems like every body is going with light arrows with big heavy heads (2016 2018 with 150 grain head or bigger),(Why is this? Is there a reason i'm not getting here, and yes i'm a compound shoot coverting over.
Might be a dumb question but just wondering.

Not sure what the difference is.
9-10 grains or arrow weight per pound of bow weight is a safe bet though.

Review my thread here on "tuning question" these guys where a tremendous help to me. Also Easton has a good downloadable program that has an option to calculate kinetic energy.
Good luck,

im still not sure what kinetic energy has to do with a sharp broadhead , just shoot as heavy of arrows as your bow will allow for hunting , more punch . and lighter ones for flatter flight . less drop . even with a 40 pound bow , and a cut on impact broad head will shoot a hole through both sides of a deer . as long as the arrow is coming out of the bow straight . dont put to much in this , shooting an arrow is one of the simplist things in the world , some people just need to tinker with things , and i dont mean any disrespect or nothing to anybody , kinda like shooting a compound and having to keep tweeking on it when all it needs is shot . find an arrow that shoots straight , and go have fun . hoot

Excellent question,CD2.....most hunting weight recurves shot by most archers are in the 45-55# range fair well with 1916's,2016's, and 2018's with 125gr up front! Carbons are stiffer and may require more weight up front for good flight than alum. More weight up front adds to total arrow weight that aids in penetration right? Depends on your set up and style of shooting also. For me, the flatter flying 2016 will hit where I'm looking out to 22yds and that's 485gr @ 188fps. Takes the guesswork out of my sight picture and split vision style of shooting;) A 2018 will hit low with the same sight picture and reuires a "mental" adjustment in tradjectory. As Hoot said, basic annd simple archery! That's the beauty of trad...watching and learning the flight of each arrow. Use white or yellow fletch,,,,become the arrow....TF
