Ok guys i'm really getting into this trad. archery This will be my second summer shooting and wanting to know if there is any really difference between a factory bow over a custum bow other than looks and preferance?
I am shooting a factory bow PSE Kuda and it is shooting good ,but i'm looking at some custums bow and looking at the price of some of these (WOW)are they really worth the price or is just the eye of the beholder????
Is one bowyer custum bow better than the other or is this just personal preferance over one than the other??.

Call Jim Suttinger (aka: heydeerman) and set up a time to meet and shoot a few of his bows. He's a dealer for several different brands. Once you've shot a custom bow you'll see the difference.
As far as quivers go I don't think it really makes much of a difference in regards to performance.

dreamer , ive been doing this for 30 years , and im here to tell you there is a difference between SOME custome bows and factory bows , i have shot custom bows that i wouldnt own , and i have shot factory bows that will shoot rite along with the customs , my advice is to shoot the bow befor you buy it , i would never buy a pig in a poke , especialy as much money as they want for some of them .. hoot

i believe if you put a factory bow in a shooting machine and a custom...the performance would be purty well equal...i also believe many if not most of the oldies would shoot just as well too in a shooting machine...wheres the difference, looks and custom means you can have the personal look you want in your bow...and if you are good enough to know the difference you can have the bow tweaked to fit your personal shooting style...with a factory you are purty well stuck with a basic design unless you or somebuddy else tweaks it...i have yet to see a bow that i shoot better than it...i have yet to see anybuddy thats better than any bow made...start with low price bows, work up to more xpensive as you progress inti traditional archery...i have heard it said by to many that martin bows are as good as anything out there...but for just a little more you can have a custom just for your own taste...you design it they build it...go to the deer turk bow,get and idea what you like, and you can shoot them there...and as thn. flt. says...jim suttinger has an assortment including martin, ancient spirits(an ohio bowyer)and chapparrel...all fit the same price range...500$

Hoot is right,
Try before you buy, the thing about a custom bow is the bowyer puts his individual style and form to the bow that he likes most, weather it is the grip style or even the length of the riser. You may find a custom bow that feels just a little better than a factory style bow. Try to get a used bow first, some models such as Black Widow can be bought for half the price of a new one and shot for a few years and get most of your money back when sold again.

There's nothing wrong with a Coyote, but the wooden bows are much more comfortable (at least IMO) and smoother.;)
Dang a 250 is pretty darn good. Was that a 20 or 25 target course?

A custom can be made at the #age, weight, draw and grip to fit the individal perfectly! Most draw force curves of standard factory bows are @28". If you have a longer draw, many factory bows, especially 60" or under will stack badly at longer draw lenghts as the archer pulls to full draw. Kinda like trying to pull thru the valley on a cmp....the proverbial brick wall:yikes: A lot of bows including some old Bear and Martins are guilty of this! A longer custom, say 64"@30" aleviates most of this and will draw smoother all the way to anchor due to limb design. A custom grip can be cut right up into the shelf putting the arrow closer to the bow hand and eye. Makes the bow point better and helps in instinctive shooting, imo. Make a few osta shoots and handle and shoot as many as possible. If you're really serious, travel to Denton Hill (Pa) or Snowshoe (WV). Word of caution....May sure to take the checkbook and/or cash cause you're sure to come home with something:bouncy: ....TF

Thanks guys so what your saying is a custum is just that a custum bow to your liking ,as for shooting a factory built recurve will shoot just as good as a custum if the shoot is any good right.
Anybody every shot any of this guys bow or even heard of them ??

TF you got your head so far up the pipe if you wiggle your ears your going to tickle your self to death! Bob Lee! I never owned a BL in my life.
Mull you talk to much! :tsk:   Remember I don't get mad, I get even. I'm an Ancient Spirit man and an Assenheimer man. Beside factory or custom has little to do with the loose screw behind the bow. I know guys who can pick up "ANY" and shoot it well! Hoot for one! A shooting machine. Then there are guys who could have a $10,000 bow and not be able to hit the broad side of a barn, from the inside with the doors closed! Me for one. The debate of custom or factory really does not hold much water IMHO. But, there is always a but you know. Opinions
are like TF's pipe, we all have one and that's why there are so many factory bow and custom bows out there!

Over the years I have found that custom bows tend to be more artistic than their factory counterparts. I prefer wooded bows over those with fiberglass limbs and machined aluminum risors. Although I'm sure they shoot fine they just seem a bit modern to me.
