"Fake" bow for photoshoots

OK, as my monicker suggests I do a lot of shooting with my camera. I have started gathering props for a fantasy series (you know elves, warriors etc) and wanted your guys insight on the best way to make a very low draw weight bow that would look good and authentic in pix.

To make one, Hmm, You could do a board bow. Go to Home Depot and get a nice board. Shave it down to the shape of a bow. Then steam it and recurve it. The more recurve you could put in it the better. If your just looking for a prop? Like the old Assyrian (sp) or Greek bows. I'm sure one the selfbow guys will have something.

its real easy to make a bow that wont shoot in a very low poundage...find a book with bow pics...go get a stick from a hickory tree,or bout any other kind...and make a bow that looks like the pic...you can easily bend it enough to put the string on...leave bout 5-6" from the string to the handle grip of the fake bow,jazz it up however you like with leather,paint,rabbit fur or feathers,scorching...WOW an indian type long:mischeif: bow...good luck on this project...dont be surprised after this one you will want to make one thats shootable...basically all you have left is following a ring on the back and tillering on the belly to make a working bow...george

LOL you obviously haven't been reading up on my misadventures! I am the worst hunter on this web site!

I tried so flippin hard this season (my first full season) and among my misadventures were multiple contusion cuts and abrasions and only one deer in range (I missed, nasty branch sent my arrow over her shoulder).

So I adopted the phrase Deer are myth a year ago after 3 unsuccessful gun seasons and then after my abysmal descent into bow hunting I decided I must be everything a hunter shouldn't be.....The Antihunter!

So don't read it as Anti Hunter, absolutely support hunting! Read it like antihero (Clint Eastwood) but in my case it's more like Don Knotts.....

Thanks for info guys, yeah something like Greek or Assyrian.... or even something that has no historical ties but a more "wild" look.


dumb Q: ummm how does one "steam" wood? I have no clue

put the wood over a pot of steaming :mischeif: water and let the steam work into the wood...
