View Full Version : Should Pope and Young allow crossbow entries?

Personally I think Pope and Young are a bunch of woosies for caving on the 80% let off rule, but what do I care I hate compounds too.
Only if you want to be an elitest group like yourself.

I dont think they should recognize cross bows, but 80% let-off bows are still fine if you ask me. Ive shot two deer with a crossbow (before I could legally hunt with a recurve due to weight restrictions) and I must say that I got more excited by shooting a deer with a muzzleloader than either one of the two crossbow kills. With the 80% let-off, you still are shooting off-hand (unless you have one of them hip rests ) and must keep nerves under control to make the shot, and practice your yardage and angle shots.

I don't think crossbows should be allowed. There's plenty of other record books that allow them.

No, I do not think they should allow crossbows, but in the purest sense they shouldn't even allow compounds. I say this and I hunt with both. But I do agree with Maco, I could care less, there are other organizations that do more for the hunting sports than B&C or P&Y, what have they given back to our sports, other than greed, deception, and controversy becuase evryone wants a book deer. Personally if they ceased to exist hunting woudl not suffer.

ohbow i do agree there are more that do more...the odnr is the leader with the sportsman alliance next, the ones like bbc,p$y,pbs and all the others pitch in and this all adds up...i would believe there is some deep pocketed hunters that prolly contribute more monitarily then any single state org...but all this adds up...none of the org. could function without the odnr with their trained staff and their money and the trust the general public has in them...:mischeif:

I don't see a problem with discussing the Pope and Young Club on a traditional archery/hunting forum. Based on what I know about the history of the P&Y club and the reasons for its formation, I think it has already strayed much too far from its intended purpose in an attempt to accomodate too many people and commercial interests. I'm not a member, and likely never will be now. you couldn't pay me to list my name with a measurement next to it in a book.
no doubt the initiator of this topics' motivation for doing so is to inflame certain folks. looks like its working, but, still, nothing wrong with courteous debate, not to be confused with sabbotage.

It will be a sad day http://forums.mathewsinc.com/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif and one I hope NEVER happens to me - the day that the method of legally harvesting a magnificent animal far outweighs the significance of the animal itself !!!

I hate them. When I'm anchored out in the resivoir and they come by real close and really rock my boat. They think they own all the dang water! Or if I'm tightlining or casting from shore and they troll really close I have to make sure don't chop a line on a prop or get tangled with them. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!

Doesn't matter to me i will use a crossbow and i don't care if it is P&Y, B&C its my life achievement and if i get a decent buck i could careless if i get P&Y and B&C because im not out hunting for those reasons. I hunt for the meat. Rack isn't a factor to me....

I myself dont care if it is shot with a crossbow or compound.:dizzy: Both ways are legal ways of hunting! Its your trophy if you shoot it, who cares how you shot it as long it is a legal way of hunting.

At one time Pope and Young was a fine organization with good intentions. Over the years I have noticed that they shifted their standards to meet up with the modernization of society. In my opinion this all changed when they began to allow compound device entries and it has been down hill ever since.

it went down hill when it became about the hunter instead of the animal...money ruined it all...:mischeif:
