Go to the public hearings on March 5th and express your concerns about the lack of interest by the Division regarding improving upland game! We need help!

It falls on deaf ears. I went to the one about the changes in walleye regulations and they spent most of their time looking down their nose and just about 0.00 minutes listening to what anybody had to say.

Some people made good points and some made remarks that were not useful. The bottom line is they like to look good by seeking our input, but ultimately they are not fond of us telling them how to do things.

I do have a recommendation. Deer, turkey and waterfowl (geese!) have all prospered in Ohio in recent years. They all have a common thread in that they require additional MONEY from the hunters to participate. My suggestion is recommend the Division enact a "stamp" for upland bird hunting and apply the proceeds to improving the upland bird hunting in Ohio. The Division can handle the planning, implementation and controlling involved and if they have additional money I feel they will do so. I know this will take many years but we have to start and maybe more money will help.
We need a politician to champion this and if anyone knows a state representative who has been successful in getting laws passed regarding outdoor, wildlife and similar events lets contact and ask to sponsor a "stamp".

That's good to here Camjam, I spoken to a LOT of bird hunters about that idea over the past 3-4 years and it's been received in a positive way by an avg. of 8 out of 10. The only concern is that the money gets to where it's supposed to go and most would only accept it if it were to be used to help out wild bird habitat and re-introductions. The last thing anyone would want to see with that money is to have it channeled off to pay for the put and take pheasants that we already have. That being said I would say advocate the desire for an upland stamp to improve the "wild" bird situation.

I'm all for improving the hunting! Around here when there is a pheasant release the area gets hammered for a week. I suppose a small number of birds make it on to private land, I'd be supprised if more than a few make through the winter.

In order for wild birds toprosper in Ohio, there needs to be two things 1) habitat improvement, but you need to get private landowners on board with this as well, it wil be of no real benefit if the improvemnts are only on public land and 2) they need to get serious about predator control, lower the price of the non-resident trapping liscence, and make racoon open year around.
