Anybody else going to make a late run at the birds before season wraps up this next week??? I've missed the last couple weeks due to series of things so I traded for Monday and plan to hit the woods hard! :dizzy:

Well, it would have been nice to say that I got out, found some birds and got points on at least a couple of them BUT..... I started out with my best dog in the best area and 15 minutes in we hit a flock of about 70 turkeys! :irked: Luckily I saw the birds before he did and got him woa'd right about the time he saw them about 100 yards ahead of me. He stayed put and watched them run and fly away but once I released him he was just off the wall wound up and ran like a maniac for about the next 40 minutes. I pretty positive he bumped 3 grouse but I never saw them to be sure. He slammed a great point on a spot he had run through before I got with in sight then eventually broke off and was very "birdy". All in all I hunted just over 4 hrs and put up 2 birds that I actually saw and had 4 that were "pretty sures". With any luck we'll have a good hatch this year and a better season next year!!

I went out again on Sunday and walked for about 3 ½ -4 hours and didn’t have a flush.:( The grouse population around here is down quite a bit. I didn’t even hear that many drumming during bow season. One property I hunt that has always produced was overrun with turkeys, with the snow on the trials look like cow trails but with turkey tracks in them. Do the turkeys affect the grouse habitat? I may have to take up turkey hunting. I hope the good weather does help the hatch cause grouse numbers in my neck of the woods have really decreased in the past 5 or so years.
