I have a nice X- large coon pelt in the freezer right now and I have it fur-side out in a plastic bag. Will it last till next season? I have never froze a fur before and dont know if it was a waste to do it. I dont have my fleshing and stretching stuff here yet so I figured I'd freeze it till next year...Will it dry-out? Should I pull it?...Just curious...I know its not worth alot but it is a biggy and I can always tan it and hang it up somewhere if it wont last in the freezer.

most good fur dealer's can tell a hold over ....
but with the new vacu pac system's might work for you though ...
if you don't have a vac. system try to triple bagging it ..fur side like you have it ...

it should keep just fine. when freezing fur , always make sure its dry and roll it up fur side out . squeeze all the air out of the package you freeze it in that you can. double or triple wrapping will help but really isnt nessicary unless your going to keep it froze longer than a year. its best to freeze them unfleshed too . by law your supposed to make your county wildlife officer aware that you've got legally taken fur held over after the season has closed . why they don't put that in the game reg's is beyond me but its in the revised code. mark

Just a quick question. You are either to salt or freeze but not both correct?

if you salt it , it won't freeze properly and would probably wind up ruined . deer hides are salted and left lying flat in cold storage until a processor picks them up to take to a tannery . mark
