well that does seem brutal but its possibly the truth...too many years lately i have had nice bucks within 20 yds...too many at 15 yds...standing for a perfect shot...this years buck, everything was perfect including the sun at my back and the buck 14 yds. away...i didnt shoot, had plenty of time...NOW lets go back to the days when i went out and slayed bunches of carp...boy here comes a carp and i sent an arrow thru them anywhere from a few feet to over 20 yds...and hitting them solid:yikes: ...the place i went you could shoot carp all year long, there was so many and the water is purty shallow(alum creek)...it really boosted my confidence level sky high...and when deer season got here and the 1st big boy came by...it got an arrow thru the breadbasket the second it turned its heavy racked head away...even at 35 yds. a big ole buck looked to be an easy shot...and it was...even a big ole carp is lots smaller target...but the average size buglemouth i was sending to the promised land was bout 8-10# i'd say...prolly bout the size and shape as a big ole bucks kill zone...so there is no doubt in my mind that gettin back to carpin would make more confident in my shooting at deer...i want to get back to it...BUT the problem is killing something that i have no desire to eat...i say every year i'm slayin some pigs, but just cant do it...i have been getting more juiced up bout carpin again the last several years...this year is even stronger to head for the carp hole...i still know where they are,i know where they live:mischeif: ...i still have the equipment:rant: ...:chicken: ...and as of now i am going... I know my wife will try to talk me out of it again :tsk: ...but i think i have to ignore her and get out there, stick some pigs,a few hundred or more:bouncy: ...:woohoo1: and regain that high confidence level to start killin these big bucks that i am beating every year xcept for the shot!!! its time to get some confidence practice...:mischeif:

Well shoot the carp and till them into your garden and put one under each tomato plant and you can eat them indirectly.
take care

If you are going to shoot carp, make sure it is an old bow. One you do not care about. It will get slimed and carp eggs will stick to it like epoxy.
I have an old Bear Kodiak Hunter I have killed a few thousand with. It looks like it has been through a war, but it still shoots great.
I picked it up at a pawn shop many years before Ebay or the internet.

I'd really like to try bowfishing this year. Our creeks are infested with gar, but the waters black and you can't see them until they break the surface and that's only for a second. I'd like to try going at night in a boat.

thats the reason i bought my first bow in 1974 . i shot as a kid , but it seems girls ment a little more in high school than a dumb ole bow , but any way , i bought a bear blackbear , brand spankin mew . 45# i killed a slunge of carp with that thing .the north fork of the licking river was great carp shooting , a friend of mine from kirkersville got me started . used to shoot alot of them at night , one hold the light and the other one shoot , kinda remindes me of the story where i slipped a gig handle between jay skaggs leggs when we were giggin frogs , i said snake , and jay looked down and seen that gig handle sticking out between his leggs , he screemed like a woman and headed for the bank , i almost lost it , untill he got the pistol out , pointed it at me and said ,, hoot you ever do something like that again , i will kill you , i think he ment it , i didnt know he was THAT! afraid of snakes , hoot

hoot,
on more than one ocation i have been threatened to death ...me and my buddie used to take this old beat up john boat to the back waters of senacaville ...took a long pole and one feller would push us around and the other would do the shootin ..found out later we could get out of the boat and just walk around and pull the boat behind us and put the shot up carp in it ..any how tommy was up doin the shoottin and i was pushin with the pool ..tommy missed this carp at about a foot and sunk his arrow 2 foot in the mud ..now he was all bent over the side of the boat trying to fetch the arrow and yes we was taken on water ....hoot i did not know tommy was afraid of big woods spider's i say's to tommy don't move ya got a spider crawling up your back i just gave him a little goose with the pole ...heeeeee jumped out of the boat ..i have not been called things like that since ..or threatened either ..tommy ended up being my brother in law and his sister ended up looking like counry roads last avatar and tommy is now my x brother in law and back to just a buddie ..

The retriever reel is the only way to go for fast action and speed in reloadin:bouncy: Makes the old windup reels obselete for sure. A little pricey but coupled with the new arrow slide system it the only way to go nowadays. Arrows are too expensive to lose:yikes: ....TF

back up there a minute, Hootie. I don't recall having too much difficulty with my retriever reel and slide rigs that day. indeed, me and doughboy:D went to my secret hotspot one day late last April and I know we skewered a hunnert quillbacks, suckers and carp a piece and couple of monster gar as a bonus. nery a backlash, fouled up line or anything. we had four doubles that day and if my point were in better shape I'da had the first triple ever. I don't know nobody that ever shot three fish at the same time with one arrow. that poor warhead at the end of my arrow done hit too many rocks. lined up shot perfect, let her fly. perfect shot went through two fish, rolled the third. real pisser.:irked: wouldn't trade my retriever reel for anything, especially when the action is fast and furious. guarantee I'll shoot two arrows for every one of your shots with a manual wind reel. :p

My first reel was one I made from a tuna fish can and two pieces of plywood. Over the years my choice of reels has evolved. I am now shooting the Retriever, I really do not see the need for the rings and harnesses on the arrow. I tie my line to the rear hole in the arrow and just shoot it that way. Works great!
