Sold my .223 a few months ago, now it's time for a new coyote/varmint/fun gun. I'm thinking .22/250 or 7mm mag. Anyone got any other ideas(or guns 4 sale?)

Since another 223 is probably out I would consider a 22-250 or maybe 243, as far as makes go my preference would be a 700VLS or VS, theres been alot of talk lately about the 17HMR, I myself almost bought a Ruger a few weeks back, if Coyotes are in the game plan the HMR might be a bit lite, there are probably guys who use the HMR on yotes though, I myself really like the 223 and couldnt go without a couple in my gunsafe:)

I know a guy with a semi-automatic AR 15. It works well for him if they come out at dusk when he can still see....he can shoot a groundhog at 400 yards.

How would anyone know what to recomand without knowing what the intended purpous for the gun is. The .17HMR is a real good small varment round but not to good for water buffalo. The .458 Win. mag. is good for water buffalo but alittle much for ground squirrels. There are several wildcats that have merit, but are no good to someone that does not reload.

For small game I use a .22 (I.E. groundhogs and such)

I think I'm in love with a Rem 700 in .270 I saw today. A bit overkill for coyotes, but overkill means a clean kill.
I'm not real hip on the .17hmr for anything but squirrels. Sure, the bullet is screamin' pretty good at 2500fps, but it's only 17grains. I like to kill anything I shoot quickly and cleanly.

i still read the 30/06 is the most versatile gun out there...light loads for hogs to varmits to deer to bear...

I have a Rem. 700 BDL 30-06. Looking at loading 110 gr. plinkers. see how they do this year.

I've used a 7mag for groundhogs for the past 3 years. I originally bought the gun for an Alaskan Trip but it fell though. Try 120gr nosler Ballistic Tips with 62.5 grains of H4350. My Browning A-Bolt shoots less than 1 inch groups any day at 100 yards.

How about a Browning BLR in 22-250 or 243.:D
I have one in 243 with 2-7x Burris compact scope, what a sweetie, as my primary coyote rifle. Got my first 'hog this year with it. Now if only I could get one of those mangy coyotes in front it like my hero M.Magis did.
Sorry Bootlegger  Not For Sale

Try a 17. Remington. I shoot 20gr. Hornady's at about 4300 fps.It might be a "HOT" load but it shoots 1/2 inch groups for me ! I've killed groundhogs out to 540 yards with it . My Nephew Josh killed one at 425 also. I'm sure it would stomp a "YOTE".I shoot a 1999 Rem. 700 classis work on by Neal Waltz. What a great job on it. Maybe if vvarmitr keep it he would kill that 'YOTE'

As usual you can't read vvarmtr, I said "I'M SHURE IT WOULD STOMP A YOTE" I have not tried it with the 17. Rem yet!!!!"BUT IF I DID, YOU WOULD SEE ONE WELL PLACED HOLE ON A DEAD YOTE!!!

It's said that "it ain't bragging if you can do it." So until you put a "WELL PLACED HOLE" in a 'yote w/ a 17Rem. I'll have to assume you're bragging. :p Maybe I just read your post wrong. :D
