The Cleveland Metroparks stocked rainbow trout at Wallace and Ranger lakes on Thursday for early-season ice fishermen, including some trout that will top the 1-pound mark. Ledge, Judge's and Shadow lakes in the Cleveland Metroparks will receive stockings of trout today.

Ice fishermen have been heading to the farm ponds to catch bluegills and crappies on small ice jigs tipped with maggots and minnows, when available. The best ice fishing has been very early in the day and from 3 p.m. until dark.

Good catches of walleye have been reported at Mosquito Reservoir. Crappies and bluegills are being taken from the west side of LaDue Reservoir. Punderson Lake has been a top spot for stocked trout, crappies and bluegills.

The steelhead trout fishing has been foiled by ice cover, a situation that could change quickly with warmer temperatures and rain in the forecast. Trout fishermen have found some open water on the Rocky, Black and Cuyahoga rivers and have been catching fish on spawn bags, jig-maggot combos and minnows. The frigid water temperatures have made fly fishing difficult.
