I want to get a nice pair of rubber boots for next season. I have my eye on these LaCrosse AlphaBurly Sport Uninsulated Rubber Boots (http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/vertical-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20564&id=0020948830377a&navCount=2&podId=0020948&parentId=cat280030&navAction=push&catalogCode=QS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat280030&hasJS=true) . Anyone own a pair or know anything about them?

yes i own the burly, the rubber high top boots may give a slight edge, but dont think they will keep deer from smelling your track...i like em real well when its real wet out like in swamps...i usually have 3-4 different pr. of different type footwear when i hunt/camp...

Are you planning on using them for the early season only? I ask because they're "un-insulated."
My LaCrosse boots have 800 grams of thinsulate and they'r pretty warm. They did develop a hole in the front crease of each boot. I've been looking at getting the Cabelas 2000 gram thinsulate rubbers for next season. Hell maybe even this season. I don't know. I've spent so much money lately it's not even funny. Engagement ring, christmas gifts, computer for work (not an option) health insurance through work............

Yes Countryroad, I plan on using them in early season. I will get them a size larger so that I can stack some socks when it starts to get a little cool.
How long did it take for the boots to develop the holes?

5 years. I emailed LaCrosse about it. They sent me a patch kit for no charge at all. That patch didn't hold very long. It was nothing but rubber cement. I thought that was very nice of them to send it for free. I also learned that they make a rubber conditioner to help prevent such a thing. I doubt the rubber conditioner is scent free however.

mine have lasted a long time,i have bought bout 3 pr. over the yrs...they are an ankle fit boot which can make em hard to get on...do not buy them too small, you will rip em in two...its best to try them, you want a pr. you can get on and off fairly easy...the proper fit still will require some tugging to get on/off...too loose and the comfy ankle fit is worthless...they are heavy and noisy and again i sress ARE NOT SCENT FREE...YOUR feet get hot in them even the uninsulated which i use and all that scent rises right up to your knee area and leaks out all over the place at deer nose level...i am just as successful using tennis shoes, the deer gets the scent either way...

For my early season boots I purchased Rocky Buckstalkers (same ones hunter06 mentioned), they have 600gr of thin. and seemed to do pretty well.. I was wearing them around 40 degress with a regular pair of socks with no problems... Also wore them up to 75degrees and didnt get too warm.. They are comfortable and quiet but just make sure that when you buy, you dont buy them TOO tight.. I think I may have messed up by buying a size that was snug for walking so my foot wouldnt slide.. They are good when im walking and everything but after sitting for a few hours I feel the need to pull my heals up to relieve some pressure... My winter boots are Irish Setter Bucktrackers with 1000gr of thin. they are nice boots but I think I should have got the ones with 1200gr... The reason I chose the Rockys is because of the size, seemed like alot of the other pairs of rubber boots I tried on seemed HUGE on the outside (which could make it a little more difficult to climb and walk in)... The Alphaburly was on my list as well but I felt that the Rockys were a little more comfortable (and cheaper I think too)...

There is a product called GOOP that you can patch your rubber boots with - most large stores have it (Wal-Mart - Lowes ets)
take care
