Anyone ever go hunting when they are sick? I feel like crap right now but really want to get out there and get one before muzzleloader season. Gonna take today off for sure and hope things are better tomorrow. Anyone ever taken a deer while they were sick?

No, I've never really hunted while I was sick.

You might just make it worst being out in the cold air.

Yep, opening day of gun season I had one of the worst bugs I've ever had. Felt like a porcupine was crawling around backwards in my belly. Felt nauseous and had one helluva headache. Lasted 20 min in the woods before walking back to the house vomiting all the way. I will say that my wife was right by my side the entire time. Was a real trooper that day even if it was her first time being out in the deer woods.

For me it depends on the degreee of sickness. If I'm feeling nauseous, with a headache and vomiting, like oxmos, then no, I'll stay home. But pretty much anything else under the weather, and I'll usually go. Ater all, it IS hunting, and there's nothing like the adrenaline and endorphine rush of connecting wth a deer to take away your illness blahs.

Now dragging your deer out of the woods when sick, that's a completely different story....

Yelp

One time I was puking out of a tree stand, but stuck it out. Never saw a deer though.

Not sure, but I didn't see any deer. Then again I was asleep half the time too.

i was so sick one year that i didnt get off the couch for 2 weeks or better . couldnt lay down , or i hacked so bad i throwed up , my brother in law called me and said he had a big one down , but lost the blood , ( evening ) i told him i wasnt doing to well and shouldnt leave the house . he said ,, but its got brow tines. well i figured i better go help . went to the spot where he last saw the blood , looked over the broken fence and there he layed , a nice buck . by the time we got him drug to the top of the hill , i was only in my longjohn bottoms and boots , i was soaking wet . and it was 20 deg. outside , went home and was better the next day . was back to work within a week . better being outside sick , than laying on the couch . heck if im gonna be misserable ,i might as well be where i can enjoy it the most.. h

Ya, I left home one time for opening day of gun season and it was eight below zero. I would have been back in the 70's sometime. I had the flu and had a temperature of 102. My wife was so mad at me for going I thought she was going to divorce me. But I went anyway, I just couldn't pass up opening day.

on that record setting cold day, was it 1974...me and a buddy woodrat walked from chauncey to way down on e. state st.,in a blizzard , past pepsi to apply for a job at mcbee...there was no cars on the road...there was only one person there, who could not believe the sight of us being there...we could not write for an hour to fill out the job app...unbelievably neither of us got the job...:(keep in mind these were my woodrat days,we lived in a "lean to" in hocking county part time...

Now someone said something about the runs, and i ahve a story that goes with that......

I mean i wasn't sick or anything but 2-3 times this year i would rush home from college to go hunting in the afternoon, and would never have time to go home. SO "natured called" and thats why i have TP in my bag. Well anyways, everytime i have taken a dump in the woods.....LOL i have seen a buck.....so i dunno.....new attractant scent for hunting????? Might have to start bottling up my "You know what" and selling it.......LOL

Well I woke up this morning with a sore throat so today should be just great. I've had worse sore throats than this, so hopefully it doesn't get any worse. I'll be picking up some honey on the way down to put in my tea.

Everytime I get a certain feeling sore throat, I know it is the flu, everytime.......

Well, I'm about to go do a little sick hunting myself today. I'm hoping I can control the coughing once I get out into the woods. I used to make fun of the "cough silencer" as one of the most useless hunting equipment gimmicks they've ever come up with, but I could probably use it today...............

The sore throat isn't as bad anymore, but I'm congested in the nose and tired. It doesn't help that I got a busted up nose either thanks to a Simmons kick (scope). LOL

Went out tonight. I've got a fever, aching joints, and chills. I figured I'd just suck it up. We've only got five days left and I can get better next week..... ;)

Missed opening day of archery season this year because of kidney stones. Man did that ever hurt. Told the guy in the ambulance during my ride that I was feeling better and that he could turn the squad around and go back to the station, I would call my wife and come get me. He said you just wait about 5 minutes and you will feel different. Well five minutes later I was doubled over in some of the worst pain of my life. I was feeling better by about 7 am but still was in no shape to get in a treestand.

yeah i know about them stones - Had three surgeries this summer and struggled to get back to hunting - was able to take a nice 8pt. the last day of gun season - got out the first day of muzzle loader season and was going out the 2nd day for the evening when i developed internal bleeding - spent the night at the cleveland clinic emergency room - back home - feeling ok and want to hunt the last day of muzzle today but a little voice keeps telling me to stay home and take it easy.

Well you guys take care of yourselfs and don't take your health for granted -

stay safe
