I cant stand watching them any more. i used to like them but after so many......"thanks to the people at XXX outfitters, come down here and it will be the best hunt youll ever had"
or they deep talking about there guns or scent or camo like it would have been impossible to kill a deer w/o it.
i wonder how many poor saps fall for this messed up form of advertising??

Man....id be an advertisement whore if I could be....getting paid to hunt....doesnt get any better than that. But, yeah, I agree a lot of these shows are ridiculous. Unless you want to pay for the dvd's you have to watch that stuff though.

These shows crack me up. They have urinals and cough silencers n everything you shouldn't go into the woods without...I think that the deer they are hunting are fenced in anyway! hahaha fun to watch tho

I still enjoy 1 or 2 of them even though on film they are almost always useing a guide or outfitter. Jim Zumbo is a fine example, read some of his articles. I think he is just as capable at taking nearly any north american game guided or unguided but to make money with a show you have to sell some sort of product to your viewers and frankly outfitters are high on that list. they are taken on high quality hunts free of charge just because that camera is tagging along. Can you imagine the cost if they had to pay for a hunt every episode? As for the fenced farm shows, you can generally pick them out pretty easilly as opposed to a true fair chase filmed hunt

Good one trapperjack, I have never got that one either....! But I think deer can only spot blue if the hunter is wearing it.

The videos are becoming infomercials with killing shots..
I saw where one guy was hunting with a muzzleloader shot a deer then walked towards where it feel and the deer got up and ran away. They never did find the deer for the show. But what was really annoying is everwhere this guy went he carried the muzzleloader over his should while holding onto the barrel and sometimes pretty close to being pointed at the camera man.
The funny thing is the products we buy supports these bozos to go out and hunt everywhere we would like too. Sure ticks me off to see them have all the fun..:(

I am sure anyone of us could hold there own with ALMOST any of those guys, the only thing that sperates them from us, access to prime private property, they get paid to do it, and 4 months off a year to hunt everyday. Hell all these guys have to do is drive in to twon in soem great hunting state like illinois, iowa, etc. and there areas are already scouted out and often times treestands hung. Soem of those guys take so much gear with them to the tree they must squat 800 lbs, just to be able to climb up their ladder or steps into the tree. One guy notorious for having too much gear is Tom Miranda, I think the guy is a great trapper, but I dont like him as a hunter. He makes too many crap shots on game.

I do feel sorry for a lot of them though. The ones that know they are tools. Half the shows the guy walks up to the animal and the guide is there smiling ear to hear holding its horns up for the camera. The hunter just stands there like he had nothing to do with killing the animal and starts advertising a product. He could care less he just harvested an incredible buck because he has done it so many times. Was watching one the other day, guy killed a 120" buck, walks up to it and was totally dissapointed saying "gosh, he really looked a lot bigger when I shot him". The problem with most hunters on t.v. is that they dont have to work to kill a 150" deer. Everything is pre scouted, hunting over a food plot, on a direct travel route of 42 monsters.

If i had the money, and the knowledge i would make my own show and put it on public access. If they need the money to do the show thats fine but i thought that was what commercials are for. the fact that they thank the outfitter doesnt bug me its just that they always (in every show ive seen any way) carry this gun or this bow or this scent or this brand of camo...just once i wish they would not even mention what they are packing or what the guide is packing!!!
Why do we have to set watching boring commercials every 5 mins when they have already advertised the product enough during the show???

What really bothers me is how most of them are not even hunts they are slaughters. Last week I saw one with a Cabela's guy hunting mountain lion. They were riding horses while they tracked the ML with dogs. THe dogs treed the cat and this guy walks to within 10 feet, has to take a step back and then BLAMO!! Hits this poor treed cat with a 300 WSM. Thats hunting for ya!

Id be willing to bet that a hunting show is one of the most profitable broadcasts on television. Think about it, no props, sets, actors, all the other useless stuff. They just get a hunter, give him free gear from sponsors, a camera man, a free hunt at a ranch, and transportation. People in the broadcasting aspect of the hunting industry are extremely greedy and sponsors feed off of it.

There are some good shows, but most are cheesy. For example, the camera man is standing by the downed deer and the hunters are tracking it and act surprised when they find it, or there is multiple camera angles when a hunter is drawing his bow back or about to shoot his gun, including an angle from the ground. I mean C'MON, thats just terrible. I like to watch shows that are over-the-shoulder.
For those of you who like "Hunting Ohio Whitetails" 1 & 2, they have a TV show now, starting sometime in 2006. It's call "Fair Chase Encounters", but it is on the Sportsman's channel, if your lucky enough to have it. Their future videos will be call "Fair Chase Encounters" as well. They have the good over-the-shoulder, as-it-happens hunting that most people are looking for.
my 2 cents

One of my hunting videos has a scene where you can clearly see an ear tag on the deer. One of those square yellow things like cows wear in their ears...
